The brain of the musician who died in 2021 was resurrected: New music composes! – Cyprus Newspaper

A team in Australia created an extraordinary work using stem cells obtained from the blood of the composer Alvin Lucier, who died four years ago.

A new art installation called “Reconstruction olan, exhibited at the Western Art Gallery of Australia, interpreted the concept of“ impulse ”in a very realistic way.

Those who visit the museum listen to the symphony created by a small part of a human brain that has died years ago, not from a live orchestra.

It was produced using its DNA

Using his DNA, the team behind the project made the resurrection of American composer Alvin Lucier.

Researchers have created a kind of brain that constantly composed music with electrical signals.

“Re -animation is the attempt to shed light on the dark possibilities of carrying a person’s existence beyond the visible certainty of death.” he said.

It works like a live brain

At the center of the work in the exhibition is a “mini brain” – a cerebral organoid, which was enlarged from the blood donated in the last years of Lucier’s life.

According to the artist Nathan Thompson, one of the common creators of the project, this neural tissue imitates the functioning of the brain and emits electrical signals like a live brain.

How does this “mini brain” work?

The installation consists of 20 large copper plates placed on the wall.

Behind each plate is a speaker and mechanical hammer reacting to neural signals from the mini brain. Electrical signals activate this mechanism and form a symphony.

The most interesting aspect of the work is that it can respond to what is happening around it like a real human brain.

The brain, which is an extension of Lucier, also reacts to the sounds of his own and the sounds of visitors.

Making art with brain waves

Alvin Lucier participated in this experiment with his own consent.

The work was created with his full knowledge and approval. Biological material donation was a conscious choice to participate in the project after his death.

In 1965, he became the first composer to create music with EEG brain waves in his work “Music for Solo Performer.

The project team describes the ongoing creation process of the artist as “post -death game ..
