A 10-year-old boy from Ternopil region was operated on in Lviv, who broke his hand in the same place for eight years eight times.
Due to damage to the child’s bone softened and literally « failed », told in Lviv « Okhmatditi ».
For the first time, 10-year-old Ivan broke the humerus in 2022, when he fell during mushroom harvesting. He was put plaster in the hospital. The bone seemed to grow, but soon he had a fracture in the same place again.
”We only heard one thing – it will grow it and everything will be fine. They advised to drink calcium, eat dairy products. But we all lived in fear: the son could not ride a bicycle, did not play football, did not lift even light things – he was afraid of a new fracture. He has essentially no childhood from 2022« , – said the boy’s mother.
When the child had an eighth fracture, the family turned to Lviv Ohmatdit. The boy was made an X -ray and found that frequent fractures were caused by tumor -like formation in the bone.
« The bone was so softened that it was literally failed under low pressure. A little more – and it could collapse completely« ,-said orthopedist-traumatologist Oleg Tokay.
Orthopedists-traumatologists conducted a difficult surgery and removed a 9 cm tumor by 4 cm. The defect was laid out with bone transplants, and also installed two flexible titanium rods to avoid recurrent fractures.
The tumor material was transmitted for histological examination to make a final diagnosis. Histology confirmed that it is an aneurysmal cyst.
After surgery, the guy’s hand was wet with only a cosine bandage without using a heavy gypsum.
Ivan now undergoes active rehabilitation, restores movements in the shoulder joint and muscle strength, his bone should completely restore his structure and strength, doctors say.
