The bodies of five skiers found in the mountains

The bodies of five skiers were found by rescuers near the Luxury Zermatt resort in Switzerland.

The bodies were recovered one day after the emergency services were alerted by a group of mountaineers climbing on Rimpfishhorn – a peak of 4,199 meters from the Alps Valais – on several pairs of skis left unattended near the peak.

The air and terrestrial searches led to the discovery of the bodies under the top of the Adler glacier, the Local Police in Valais announced in a statement issued on Sunday.

The victims were found at different altitudes on avalanche residues in high altitude areas near the Swiss-Italian border.

Three bodies were located in an area, and two others were discovered above, on a narrow portion of snow, said Air Zermatt rescue service.

A fifth pair of skis was found later during the searches, confirming that the group had traveled as a group of five. Their identities have not yet been officially disclosed.

The parquet has opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

Zermatt is one of the most prestigious Alpine resorts in Switzerland, visited by British skiers and other wealthy European skiers. But the ascent to Rimpfishhorn is considered a more advanced expedition, about five hours of resort.
