The Bettendorf citizens want to continue to be there

All citizens of the municipality of Bettendorf were invited on Sunday to express themselves for or against the continuation of the merger negotiations with the municipalities of Diekirch, Ettelbrück, Erpeldingen on the Sauer and sheer. A clear language was spoken: a total of 741 inhabitants voted for, 549 against continuing the talks.

The municipal council decides on Wednesday

However, it is not yet clear that the Schöffenrat will actually continue the talks. The last word has the local council, which will be on Wednesday about the outcome of the referendum. Probably no final decision will be made. The local council does not necessarily have to follow the will to voters.

A total of 1,696 citizens were invited, about the question « Do you want the municipal council to complete the exploratory talks so that the citizens of the municipality of Bettendorf in 2027 can be found in a referendum through a possible fusion with the municipalities of Diekirch, Erpeldingen on Sauer, Ettelbrück and Schieren? » to coordinate. However, only 1,327 of them voted. 37 ballot papers were invalid.
