the best corners according to the locals

Well, rather, according to the immigrant locals. It is often the case that people who are not « always » in a place are more subtle noticing the nuances and details of life in the city, which may seem self -evident or known for so long that they no longer notice them. How does our interlocutors touch Stone?

After the ancient town, we are guided by some professional vein – hence, probably the monastery library among its proposals as a detailed cut, where to eat and what to drink. Nina Žitko Pucer It has arranged most of the cookbooks that have taught us well in the last decade. Among other things, for example, everything that is recent with signature Jamie Oliverand most of all the great Slovenian cook (2018), so thick and extensive that it was already a refreshment they had done with their sister Bernardo Gostecnika terrible stock.

What is the café in Kamnik where locals most often occupy?

Kamnicans are occupied in several different ends. I prefer roots in a cozy, not too big restaurant with a compelling character – Korobac, yes, one I also recommend for lunches. In it, they kindly serve a really good coffee, roasted quite close to my home.

I also like to do them because of their second offer, homemade ice tea and orange are fantastic, the choice of local beers and wines is excellent, my favorite cocktail is a reliable Korobac Sour. Homemade cutting is great. But other dishes, as we say, are worth trying.

A corner, a corner, a street, a place that always stuns you with your beauty?

Kamnik is a charming small town. However, it has something that many other lovely towns or cities do not have, and which again stuns me every day with its beauty, regardless of part or season. This is a Kamnik saddle, a recognizable mountain veduta, an 1864 -meter high mountain pass between Bran (on the left) and Planjava (on the right) that hugs our city.

In winter, it is the most beautiful in the morning when fresh snow falls and in the summer in the evening, sung by the setting sun. You can only observe it, but you can climb it from Kamniška Bistrica. The trail is not too demanding, but below the ridge you will have a mountain hut and a wonderful view.

A cultural and artistic attraction, which is wrongly released from the trails of tourists, perhaps even locals.

This is the monastery library of Patriarch Donat Valvasor in the Franciscan monastery. It hides treasures that many do not know. The library holds about 10,000 volumes, and the first books were brought by the brothers at the end of the 15th century. Its most valuable part is incunabula or first (books printed in the first 50 years after the invention of the press).

The library also holds Dalmatin’s translation of Pentatevh (Pentokrož) from 1578, an attempt to translate the entire Bible published in 1584. They also keep this outstanding book in these rooms, and the Franciscan copy is special because it contains Dalmatin’s preface, which they had to tear during the counter -reform to read it.

Also stored here are part of the legacy of linguist Stanislav Škrabec and an extremely interesting manuscript travel diary of Patra Žiga Škerpin (1689–1755), who attended the General Franciscan Order in Kastilje as a representative of the Carniolan-Croatian province.

Where to go to the good, not too pretentious but sincere lunch?

There are quite a few excellent inns in the vicinity of Kamnik, and in the city itself you can enjoy an extremely tasty and sincere lunch with a pinch of modernity in Korobač, where they will also offer you a specialty in addition to the regular menu. It is not to be ignored by their meat dishes, burgers and wrap, and home -made (non -alcoholic) beverages.

If you are Balkan inspired, you can stop at the bypass in Cordun, if you like to explore the flavors, for you the Syrian restaurant is a TSNIM with excellent chickpeas salad and baklava. However, if you are in a hurry, you can afford 7 burger with hard music rhythms and beer when entering Kamnik.

Where on the city streets most interestingly on the surface of the city’s history, where to stand when you want to see in its future?

The center of the city with its narrow streets is just overwhelmed by history. I can easily imagine how medieval city ladies rushed through them, past walls, windows and portals (as well as some relief), well visible today, by work or chatting to the central square. Some houses also include craft inscriptions that have been dealt with by the owners not long ago.

On the outskirts of the center are factories that tell the story of another country and the former industrial development and community. Their premises are now being used by new young companies. There are more of them every day. This is our future.
