Klaipeda Mayor Arvydas Vaitkus emphasized that all events – the start of the summer season, so the slogan of the weekend – « We lift sails to the summer! ».
« We are a real maritime city, the Lithuanian maritime capital. On May 16-18, seven spectacular events will be greeted by Klaipėda residents and guests.
The same weekend will be held by the Marine Culture Awards Albatros, Street Music Day, Fish Day, Ship Parade, Museum Night and Hope Running.
Aloyz Kuzmarski, the owner of Meridiano, said the tradition of lifting the ship’s sails has been alive since 2014, which has as many as 14 sails.
« The most important thing is that we are in the most beautiful city in Lithuania-Klaipeda. We start preparing for the most beautiful celebration, which a large part of the Lithuanian people will be found in the sea lovers. The start will begin on the sailboat. The sails are ready and will be raised on May 16th. I hope the day will be sunny and beautiful.
Will bake fish, there will be a fireworks
Romandas Žiubrys, the organizer of the ship’s parade, noted that the ship’s parade will take place this year for the 15th time.

The parade is planned on the evening of May 17. It will include port truck dance, congratulations of the port location ships, night parade of illuminated ships, light and music event in the lagoon.
The celebration will be crowned with fireworks from Smiltynė.

Kristina Jakštė, the director of the Fishermen’s Palace, said that the Maritime Culture Awards « Albatros » will be held on May 16, and will be elected a person with his work in this field.
The awards have been awarded since 2014, usually in Smiltyne at the Albatroso Monument.
According to Karolis Pronckus, the organizer of cultural events of the Fishermen’s Palace, over 20 different music bands will perform on Street Music Day on May 17. The Old Town will also host spit fighting and fish will be baked.

Nina Puteikienė, Head of Public Relations Division of the Lithuanian Maritime Museum, shared that the traditional event-seal’s names-will take place on May 16 at the Museum’s Baltic Sea Animal Rehabilitation Center.
On May 17, there will be excursions at this center, and there will be an opportunity to hear an audio installation prepared by the artist Justas Per Perbele on the life of aquatic animals.
« Tours are donated to both the Lithuanian Maritime Museum Aquarium and behind the scenes and the Baltic Sea Animal Rehabilitation Center. 120 people will be able to visit the aquarium, those who register, » said N. Puteikienė.
The same Saturday night will also have the opportunity to visit Sūduvis on board for free.
Brother Francis Andrius Nenė shared that this year’s « Hope Run » would take place for the 18th time. According to Franciscan, it is designed to support both oncological diseases and their loved ones.
One of the organizers of this run, Vilija Jonušaitytė-Brosse, also emphasized-the message of this event is that Klaipeda is a city of hope, so it is important to concentrate on such initiatives and help those who need it most.
