The cell was headed by Jan Marsalek, originating from Austria, head in Germany, who became a Russian intelligence officer.

Journalists who investigated Russian espionage were also among the targets of the cell.

One of them, Roman Dobrohotov, told the BBC to believe that the President of Russia was the most responsibility Vladimir Putin.

Genčevo was first identified by the BBC using its social media orders.

She exchanged messages with Katrin Ivan’s and Pearl Jambazovs on Facebook.

In the Bulgarian business register, it says that the only owner of the company is International Aviation Consult.

We called Genchevo to the Bulgarian phone number used for real estate jobs.

She interrupted the connection as soon as we said we were from the BBC and to talk to the conversation, not to hear the reason for the call.

In response to the letter we sent to her later and we presented her evidence of her, she said she « didn’t want to comment on the case » and not to give her consent to her name.

She replied in Bulgaria, claiming not to speak English well.

However, at her public linkdine profile, it is stated that English speaks « excellent and fluent », and that she completed her studies in English.

Woman from Vienna

Donceva aids in the spying in the research journalist of Christ Grozeva in Vienna.

She rented an apartment across from his and filmed it with a camera.

She was paid to lead the propaganda campaign against Ukraine.

She also followed the Austrian research journalist Ana Talhamer, which wrote about Russian espionage.

Dončevo, which is unemployed, arrested the JW Austrian police in December.

In court documents, which reported the Austrian magazines and Falter first, and which later saw the BBC, writes that « there are serious suspicions that the crime of secret intelligence work on Austria damage. »

She said to investigators that she followed people at the request of a long-term friend Vanja Gaber, one of the six citizens of Bulgaria who were waiting for the sentence in London.

Rusev recognized the criminal offense before the British Court and was sentenced to ten years in prison.

In court documents, Jan Marsalek was directly ordered by the monitoring of Ana Talhamer directly.

Donceva admitted to the police that she photographed the journalist’s then workplace then and followed the restaurant nearby.

Talhamer, now the editor-in-chief of the Austrian magazine, she said for the BBC that the police first informed her that she was spied and now know she was followed for a long time.

« She obviously sat in front of the office at a very beautiful restaurant serving fish specialties.

« She complained that it was too expensive and she needed more money, and she got it. »

She added that « that woman » spied and many « people in high positions ».

Talhamer doesn’t know where they followed her, but she found out that some of her sources were identified and that there were tries to break into their homes.

She emphasized that « Vienna capital of the spy », but that no one in the city has been punished for spy so far, because « Laws are great for spies here. »

« I live alone with my daughter.

Both women, Cvetelin Gencheva and Cvetanka Donceva, worked together with six other Bulgarian citizens who were convicted for the conspiracy for Spy for Russia.

Police in the UK found an archive of almost 80,000 messages on the social network Telegram between Orlin Ruseva and his manager Jana Marsalek.

These messages reveal a number of operations conducted by the cell before the police interrupted its work in February 2023. years.

The Austrian Public Prosecutor’s Office requested that Dončeva was retained in custody until the trial, but the court rejected that request and it was released.
