The batteries are classified as pedestrians

Bicycleters in the capital area count those traveling on electric lanes as pedestrians. Probably there are far more people traveling through active modes of travel than data indicate.

« The equipment considers electric running wheels as pedestrians, because it is so short between the tires, these are like a step, » says Katrín Halldórsdóttir, director of bicycle and walking paths at better transport.

She says that at the sun at Sæbraut, it is possible to install the first wheelbase that counts an electric running wheel.

Almost 30 counters are in the capital area and there are several more removable, according to Katrina. According to data from the counters, cycling traffic has increased steadily, especially in the spring and autumn.

« These figures are probably much higher, because of course we should count the electric rolls in this data, » says Katrín, in a conversation with mbl.is.

More bikes in the spring and fall

She explains that a few years ago, high peaks in cycling over the summer months were measured against less use of wheels in the spring, autumn and winter. The trend has been in the direction of more bikes all year round compared to those who cycle almost exclusively in the summer.

« It has not diminished summer cycling, those peaks may have only been in place, but there has been a huge increase, especially in the fall and spring, » says Katrín. There has also been a considerable increase in winter.

« You wonder if the electric bikes are not coming in a little strong, » says Katrín, pointing out that winter cycling will be much easier on electric bikes. They help to offset the weather and move.

Similar behavior in circulation cycling and driving

Katrín says that on the counters you can also see when people’s bikes day and can see similar behavior as in car traffic.

« There are peaks in the morning and in the afternoon, which also tells that these are people who are likely to ride to and from work or school, » says Katrín. Also, there is more cycling traffic on weekends, as in car traffic.

Due to the locations of the counters, which are mostly on the long -distance pathways, the data on cycling children, which do it near their homes inside neighborhoods, are likely to be lacking in neighborhoods and are less on these trunk routes.

« It is an incredibly large proportion of children who use wheels as their main means of transport, » says Katrín, pointing out that it has been reflected in the City of Reykjavik Travel Survey.
