The average air temperature in February was close to the norm / day
It was the coldest February in Latvia since 2021, when the average monthly temperature reached -5.2 degrees.
Precipitation last month in the country on average was 17.2 millimeters or 43% of the norm. The most precipitation – 30.5 millimeters – was in Vicaki, Ventspils County, but the least in Priekuli, where only eight millimeters were registered.
The minimum air temperature of the month was -19.7 degrees on February 20 at Daugavpils Observation Station, while the highest temperature was +8.3 degrees on February 25 in Stende. No temperature record was beaten.
At the beginning of February, the air temperature in Latvia was above normal, it dropped in the middle of the month, the second decade was about three degrees colder than usual, but as the end of the month approached, the weather became warmer.
The average relative humidity in Latvia was 83% in February, from 79% in Riga to 87% in Stende. The strongest gusts of wind – 16.5 meters per second – were observed on February 21 in Liepaja.
The duration of sunshine in the country as a whole was greater than the average in 1991-2020. In places in Northern Kurzeme and central part of the country, the month was less sunny than during the normal period, but elsewhere in the country, the duration of sunshine was 30% above normal, up to 60% above the norm in southern Kurzeme.
