Pop Katy Perry star and the life partner of Amazon Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sánchez, alongside the Gayle King news presenter, the film producer Kerianne Flynn, as well as researchers Aisha Bowe and Amanda Nguyen launched on Monday, on board a suborbital New Shepard vehicle.
The New Shepard reusable vehicle was launched in the morning at 9:30 (13:30 GMT) from the Blue Original Launch Base in Van Horn, Texas.
The flight lasted about 10 minutes. The six crew members climbed to an altitude of about 100 kilometers, just above the Karman line, an invisible border that is widely accepted as the edge of the space. Then the capsule lowered the aid of parachutes and landed in the Texas desert.
Blue Origin offers such short incursions to the edge of the space for tourists for several years. Ten such launches were successfully completed, carrying 52 space tourists in space. Jeff Bezos was on board in the first such flight that took place in 2021.
The trip in space took place two months before Sanchez and Bezos marry.
