The 1st Ecumenical Synod of Niceea, 1700 years
The 1700 -year -old conference from The first ecumenical synod of Niceea: Relevance and contemporary reflections’, organized by the Academy of Scientists of Romania (AOSR), through the section of philosophy, theology and psychology of the AOSR, together with the Academy of Legal Sciences, was held on Thursday at the Parliament Palace.
During the conference, the president of the AOSR, prof. Dr. Eng. Doina Banciu, said that the Nicea synod represents a model of cooperation between administration (Emperor Constantine the Great) and the beliefs of people in order to clarify the ideas and mutual tolerance, an example of unity in diversity, as an element of a sustainable construction based on consensus and collective assumption.
‘The formulation of the Creed from Niceea represented a call to discernment and an impetus for an active responsibility in the context of the contemporaneity of each era. For today’s world, faced with superimposed crises, faith must be addressed with discernment and wisdom. Today’s event has shown that the Church and Science are complementary when they have the same common goal, the search for truth. Contemporary challenges – from artificial intelligence to global ethics – forces convergence and tolerance, « said Doina Banciu, according to a statement of the AOSR, Agerpres said on Thursday.
The chairman of the Legal Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and the president of the Academy of Legal Sciences in Romania, Bogdan Ciuca, spoke about the scientific and cultural value of the conference, about the importance of moral and spiritual rules and principles and about the need for models in today’s world.
They also took the word: pr. dr. Daniel Bulai, episcopal vicar, who transmitted the message of the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Metropolitan of Bucharest, Aurel Percă, and conf. Univ. dr. Sorin Bădrăgan, from the Baptist Theological Institute in Bucharest.
The honorary president of the AOSR, prof. Univ. Dr. Eng. Adrian Badea, highlighted the fact that a common objective of today’s world should be the reunification of Christian churches in the spirit of the Council of Niceea, while the associate professor. Dr. Ben-Oi Ardelean, from the Faculty of Baptist Theology, the University of Bucharest, said that human dignity must be the most important value in all systems.
During the plenary session, dedicated to the scientific lectures, the Archbishop of Târgoviștei, Metropolitan Nifon, highlighted how the ideas from Nicaea are found in contemporaneity, with an emphasis on the role of dialogue and communication, the missionary role of the Church and the unifying role of ideas and concepts.
The vicar bishop of the Archdiocese of Bucharest, Timothy Prahovean, the BOR representative at the event, sent a message from the patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Daniel, and spoke about ‘Niceea and Caesarea Palestine, cities of faith in search of eternal truth’.
The dean of the Faculty of Baptist Theology, the University of Bucharest, as well as foreign invitations – prof. dr. Otniel Bunaciu, prof. Univ. dr. Paul Stuart Fidees, University of Oxford, prof. Univ. Dr. Paruș Parușev, the Free University of Amsterdam – who showed the influence of the synod of Nicea on the Baptist cult.
They also lecture: deputy Verginia Vedinaș – ‘current constitutional landmarks of freedom of religious beliefs’; Dean of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology and Education Sciences, ‘Valahia’ University of Târgoviște, prof. Dr. Ștefan Florea, – ‘Creed from Niceea and his theological impact’; prof. Univ. dr. Narcis Zărnescu, scientific secretary of the section Philosophy, Theology and Psychology of the AOSR – ‘About Concordia Discos and Imperial Theology’; assist. Univ. dr. Valentin Minoiu, ASE Bucharest – ‘the symbol of faith (belief) – 1700 years of the covenant of love between man and God’.
A special moment during the plenary session for constituted the intervention of the American astronaut daughter James Irwin, Joy Irwin Scretkleff, who recalled that his father participated in the 1971 selenary exploration, on the occasion of which a Bible was taken and a number of national flags, including that of Romania, which was later made to our country.
During the event, moderated by prof. Univ. dr. Mihai Bădescu, president of the Aosr’s Philosophy, Theology and Psychology Section, was opened the exhibition ‘Bible over time’, organized by the Bible Museum in Timisoara, under the coordination of Pastor Ionel Tuțac, which presents a variety of Bibles, Romanian and foreign, in various editions, some other editions, some other editions.
