On Saturday evening dozens of local residents of the new city, a neighborhood in Ostend, were a wake near the building where Anja Lievens died when she crossed the path of William C.. Flowers were laid and candles were lit at her apartment in the Guldensporenlaan. « This is a very large shock for the entire neighborhood, » say local residents.
More than a week ago – on Thursday 3 April – the neighborhood of the new city was startled by horrible facts. The 53-year-old Anja Lievens probably became a random victim of William C. It was her 19-year-old son who found that his mother was not in the apartment. He informed the police and he pulled a picture of his mother from door to door. A few hours later, Anja Lievens’ body was found dead on the stairs to the roof of the apartment building where she lived. The woman turned out to be killed by violence.
Read too. Just when he went to the roof, he crossed her: Anja (53) was murdered without reason by William C.
William C. quickly came to the sights. After all, the police found a written text on the wall of the top floor of the building, close to the place where Anja’s body was found. On Saturday evening dozens of local residents came together where Anja lived. « We want to be here for Anja, but also to make our voice heard, » says Ilse Decloedt who brought the neighborhood together. « This should never have happened. That man had a lot of convictions to his name, but could still go his way. »

Anne Laure Vanhaverbeke is also shocked by what happened in her neighborhood. « A single mum with a son who has to let life like that, terrible, » says the woman. « As neighbors, we have to express our condolences with her, with her family and with her friends. This is a very big shock for the whole neighborhood. You often hear something like that in the news, but then it happens in your own neighborhood. Everyone is shocked very hard here. »
