Bavaria is not planning a comprehensive ban on knife in public transport. Unlike the neighboring country of Baden-Württemberg, where in the future no knives or other weapons may be worn in buses and trains. There is no nationwide ban in Bavaria and is also not in the works, said a spokesman for the Interior Ministry in Munich When asked by the German press agency. In the Free State, the municipalities, district offices and district governments in particular should decide on such bans.
The Ministry of the Interior justifies the principle by the fact that the authorities could best decide whether knife bans are sensible and legally enforceable. This also applies to public transport. Also in Augsburg, knife ban zones were under discussion last year. Since 2017, prohibition regulations for Maxstraße and adjacent roads have been in effect – but only on « special occasions », which include major events such as the summer nights or New Year’s Eve.
The city of Augsburg also employed weapons and knife ban zone
In addition, the city called other possibly sensible prohibition zones. This included sensitive areas with many people-such as local recreation areas such as the Kuhsee or around the FCA stadium. Also temporary zones, for example the city center in the night hours, were conceivable variants. With reference to the crime and hazard situation in Augsburg, there was no reason for the police for a generally valid weapon ban zone. The prohibitions on weapons in Augsburg were not expanded through the existing Maxstrasse control.
Nevertheless, weapons on bus and train are not allowed
However, this does not mean that passengers in Bavarian S-Bahn, subways, trams and buses can simply have knives and other weapons with them. Corresponding bans can be regulated, such as in the Augsburg Transport and Tariff Association (AVV) or at Deutsche Bahn via the transport conditions.
