His novel also opens the theme of Manosphere.
His book tells the story of a sincere teenager with a special humor that will appeal to a girl in public transport. Together they find that high school actually does not have much similar to how it is portrayed by series or books. Nice guys are often not fine, good boys can be toxic and the first sexual experiences may not be magical.
Czech writer Petr Henel wrote a novel about the stars you see h*vn*who became the debut of the year 2024 on Humbookawards and won a reader not only from the young generation.
As he says, he wanted to see reality because he was missing in teenage times in the literature. « I only perceived the illusion of how pink, nice. I was open to what I was, I told my friends.
In the interview you read:
- Why did he write a book about the stars you see h*vn*.
- As shown in it.
- Whether we idealize the world of young people.
- Why he wrote the book for nine years.
- Whether it is possible to create another type of male identity through stories.
What were you a teenager?
I am generally a friendly person, so I never made differences between people. It didn’t matter whether it was outsiders or girls and guys. I talked to teenagers from different spheres. Some guys often have a negative commented that I had fun with the girls, or even that I show emotions.
Marks, the main character of your book is sensitive, he likes to think, he is more romantic. Were there any similarities between your younger me and him?
I was never afraid to admit that Marks is like me. I did not go to such extremes as he did, but many times did not work out because I was « too good », so I adjusted my behavior. Like him, I experienced a refusal in relationships.
Usually, however, I managed to break this failure, so fortunately I did not fall into the spiral as my book hero. I am very interested in it as if it looked if I grew up in the presence of a manosphere and someone would confirm me in what was going through my head at that time.
What was it?
Thoughts such as that girls want bastards and that I should also behave.
Sure, I had friends who often supported me in what I think, but it is different when someone with a high number of followers and views confirms you.
Nowadays, young men on social networks are often exposed to people such as Andrew Tate who promote toxic masculinity. Marks also follow the advice of a « bald man from YouTube », and he also feels that he is doing well with girls, but eventually finds out that the road does not lead. Do you think it works in the real world?
People change in their lives when they hit their mouth hard. We are likely to stop driving quickly when we are cracking. I would like to believe that this will happen in these cases.
Often, however, there is a risk that a young person, but also an adult man, falls into a kind of abyss.
The manosphere wants to return the world to good times when women did not decide on things (writes Soňa Jánošová) Read
You don’t mention Tata in the book. Do readers understand the theme of Manosphere?
I see that many people in the book do not perceive this topic. Maybe it’s precisely because I don’t mention Dad’s name in the book.
I didn’t name him because I didn’t want to give him space. At the same time, I wanted to show that when someone else appears in a few years, it will be a universal pattern « Mačo guy ». Those who know him will find him in the story.
The characters in your book are struggling with insecurity, sadness, various presses of society. Do you think that such conditions are the tanker, from which the manosphere draws strength? Does it use this vulnerability?
We are vulnerable at any time, not only when we are teenagers, but even if we are in a relationship and meet the failure. Uncertainty will grow and the algorhythm can feel it very quickly. Suddenly we feel that the manosphere gives us answers: that something
It didn’t work because I was a little man and I had no respect.
How can we prevent receiving such negative patterns?
It’s a long -distance run. Like misinformation, we must detect that this is a problem. We need to educate people, talk about it, to devote ourselves to manosphere thematically through art and in popculture. I believe that the stars are one of the first swallows and the other works will go in a similar direction.
