Textiles in a thousand and one way

Made and Anselma is an ethical and ecological brand that sustainably creates clothing from discarded pieces of textiles. It is a platform that has been committed to raising awareness of the beauty and the problems of making clothing since 2011, the use of discarded materials, and connecting the interested public, artists and manufacturers.

Anselma began when she’s Ana Malalan Čeligoj prepared a course of tailoring and sewing, and it has been shown that there is a lot of interest in these skills. After renting the first rooms, she began to rent tables, and so it was created coworking or participates. There was more and more demand for their products, and so the Made and Anselma brand was created. Through creativity, a lot of waste goods have accumulated. “Because I am basically from the village, almost from the farm, it always seemed to me for granted that everything was on hand and that there was virtually no waste. For example, storing, for example, packaging and reusing bags, for example, seems natural to me. It was also natural that we sewed our clothes out of what we had on hand. The design is basic, the clothes are quite classic and timeless. We wanted to produce clothes that would be accessible to a wide range of people. So the performance must have been quite simple so that it did not raise the price too much, ”explained Ana Malalan. “The brand run is as little garbage as possible, to spend everything available to do useful things for everyday life. I didn’t have special plans for Anselmo, always just one thing at a time. It went step by step, people were coming and leaving, each brought and carried away. Although I was involved with Anselmo all the time, I did not perceive it as a job, more as my own living space in which I do what I think is right and in some way useful. I tried to spread the knowledge and knowledge of the craft that is extinct and of materials that we will soon no longer know how to recognize. «

Anselma has been working independently for 14 years, and is still working to preserve, spread and educate the general public about the seamstress, the origin of the clothes and the textiles in general. “It also serves as a small incubator for individual artists and manufacturers and is established as the first address for questions about textiles related projects. It cooperates with different groups, organizations and individuals, especially in the field of art and culture. « 
In Milan, they will invite visitors to co -design the products, each will be able to design a T -shirt by choosing combinations of the goods from which the T -shirt will be made. « Those more enthusiastic will be able to sew a T -shirt under our mentorship and take it home. » They also prepare a special installation, a station where there will be many old mixed buttons that will need to be sorted. « Working with waste material – be it wood, tube or goods, always includes sorting and preparing material, which consumers are rarely aware of. »

Currently, Ana Malalan is focusing on establishing a channel for the expansion of the use of waste goods – it erects Anselma Štoff store, an antiquity of metric goods, wool and other sewing materials at the Ledina Center in Ljubljana. “Although Made and Anselma produce 1000 to 1500 pieces a year, it does not run out of such material. In all these years the so -called ‘Dead Stock‘The material still appears and it is really amazing how much it circles. We are slowly running out of storage space. At the same time, I find it encouraging and raising awareness of the use of existing materials. This legacy of various textile products – from goods, lace, ribbons, hedgehogs, buttons, zippers, threads, yarns, and so on – is varied and diverse. It quickly encourages the desire to create. «
