Tesla's shareholders have been severely hit by the stock exchange race in the United States this year. And the worst has been for the company's Swedish owner.
In parallel with this year's turbulence on the US stock exchanges, the Swedish krona has been significantly strengthened against the dollar, an increase since the turn of the year by almost ten percent. It is more than any other comparable currency.
Happy news for Swedish travelers who get more for the money abroad, but bad for those who own shares in the USA. And so do many Swedes, either directly or indirectly through their fund holdings. One of Swedes' largest holding is car manufacturer Tesla.
– The share is very popular with Swedes. And the course is currently down about 45 percent in dollars – but 50 percent in Swedish kronor, says Frida Bratt.
She points out The fact that the weak krona towards the dollar that we have seen in recent years has meant that, among other things, Tesla, Global Funds, USA Funds and Tech Funds have gone better for Swedish savers than they would otherwise have done. – Look at your funds and see what they contain. For example, a global fund contains a lot of American tech and may need to be supplemented with a European fund or a growth market fund and a Swedish fund, so that you get something else too, says Frida Bratt.
For Swedes' pension savers, the turbulence at the US stock exchange in combination with the crown effect also risks being noticed. For example, 5.7 million savers have the state default alternative AP7 Såfa for their premium pension. The stock fund has 69 percent of its holding in North America and several tech giants, including Tesla, in the portfolio.
