Tesla’s sales on the EU market continued to fall in the first quarter of 2025, with reduced registrations by 45 percent annually, according to data from the European AC Managers Association (ACEA).

In the EU, the number of Tesla registered vehicles dropped to 36,167 compared to 65,774 in the first three months of 2024, which is the largest relative decline in that period among large carmakers.

Tesla’s sales in the European Union fell 36 percent in March compared to March 2024.

It is a continuation of the negative trend for the American carmaker owned by billionaire Ilon Musk, although the fall is a bit fun at the beginning of the year.

Between January and February, registrations fell 49 percent annually.

The Volkswagen Group increased by almost 5 %, while BMW saw a modest increase by 0.4 percent. Mercedes-Benz, meanwhile, dropped by 6.2 percent.

Overall, new car registrations in the European Union declined by 1.9 percent in the first quarter, although electric vehicles (EV) grew by 23.9 percent, reaching a market share of 15.2 percent.

Electric car registrations increased significantly in March in Germany, Belgium and Denmark, and begin to increase in Spain and Italy, which lags far behind their European neighbors.

On the other hand, they declined in France (-14 percent compared to March 2024), where the effects of reducing the ecological bonus still feel.

Sigrid de Vris, CEO of ACEA, believes that this progress in European Union electric vehicles is not enough for the automotive lobby, indicating « a solid gap among ambitious targets for decarbonization and the reality of slower than expected acceptance by consumers. »
