Tesla requests driving service license in California
Tesla has applied for approval for the operation of a driving service in the US state of California. It is a first step on the way to the goal of creating the robotaxi offer announced by company boss Elon Musk.
However, the application stated that people on the wheel were still intended in the car on the platform, reported the Bloomberg financial service. The responsible California authority CPUC only confirmed the existence of the application.

The electric car manufacturer had had to accept back delivery figures last year. Musk announced, however, that the future of Tesla was in autonomous driving. He has long spoken of the fact that at least newer vehicles could be sent off by their owners to earn money as robotaxis.
Musk recently promised the start of a driving service platform for this year in the state of Texas – and possibly also in California.
Meanwhile, the Google sister company Waymo comes in San Francisco, Phoenix and Los Angeles on more than 200,000 paid trips with passengers without a person at the wheel. Musk claims that Tesla can only reach autonomy with cameras without the more expensive laser radars used by Waymo.
Hollywood show: Tesla shows robotaxi and self-driving bus
However, many industry experts doubt that self -driving cars can only be reliably and safely on the road with cameras. In October, the Tesla boss presented a vehicle called « Cybercab » without a steering wheel and pedals. He announced in 2026.
