Tesla loses the leading position in our country


The market for electric cars in Romania suffered a significant decline in March, with a decrease of 58% compared to the same period last year, according to data analyzed by the press. This collapse is attributed to the postponement of the new Rabla program, but also to the uncertainties regarding the value of the ticket for electric vehicles.

According to the figures regarding the entrances in circulation, only 273 electric cars were registered in March, compared to 650 in the same month last year. The demand for this type of vehicles was also affected by an increasingly reserved perception of consumers compared to this segment.

Dacia Spring becomes a leader, adze fall on the third place

For the first time in recent years, Tesla is no longer the best -selling import mark on the electrical segment. Dacia Spring remained in the first place in the top of the sales, although it registered only 44 units registered, 80% less than March 2024. The second place was occupied by the T03 Leapmotor, a model produced in China and assembled in Poland, which reached 34 units. Tesla Model 3 went down to the third position, with 27 units registered, a decrease of almost 70% compared to last year.

Other electric models that attracted the interest of Romanians in March include Mercedes Eqe, Tesla Model Y (11 units, compared to 78 in March 2024), VW ID.4 (10 units), Volvo Ex30, Porsche Macan, Mercedes Eqa and Ford Explorer.

Hybrids take control of car market

If the electric vehicle market has registered a steep decrease, the segment of hybrid cars has experienced explosive. In March 4,994 hybrid units (including Plug-in Hybrid) were registered, an 88% increase compared to last year. These now represent over 50% of the total Romanian car market.

On the other hand, diesel cars continued to lose ground, with a volume of only 953 units registered, marking a 38%decrease. The cars with petrol engine had a positive evolution, with 3,702 units registered and an increase of 31% compared to March 2024.

Changes in the market share of engines

Of the total registration of new car registrations in March, electric vehicles represented only 2.75%, reaching one of the lowest levels in recent years. In contrast, hybrids reached a market share of 50.33%, while gasoline cars have 37%of the market, and diesel went down to a historic minimum of 9.6%.
