Terrifying statistics. The most people die that day
In 2024, 1,896 people were killed in road accidents, three more than in 2023, but 349 less than in 2021 – according to the report of the KGP Road Bureau, to which PAP reached. These are more or less as many people as they live in the town of Sępopol.
Police report on accidents
The Road Traffic Office of the Police Headquarters prepared a report on road accidents in Poland in 2024. It shows that then there were 21,519 accidents, 583 more (by 2.8 %) than in 2023, in which 20,936 accidents were recorded. 1896 people were killed, which is the same as in 2022 and three more than in 2023.
In 2024, 24,782 people were injured, including 7796. Compared to 2023, when 24,125 people were injured, this number increased by 657 wounded (by 2.7 percent).
In 2024, police units received reports of 390,580 road collisions. It is at 28 314 (by 7.8 percent) more than in 2022 IO 24 589 (by 6.7 percent) more than in 2023.

According to the division into individual days of the week, the most accidents were recorded on Fridays (16.1 percent of the total). The most injured people (16 %) were also recorded in these days. Most people were killed on Saturdays (15.7 percent).
The number of the number killed for 100 road accidents in 2024 in Poland was 8.8, which means that almost 9 people died of 100 accidents. The highest indicator was recorded in the province. Podlasie-16.7, Kujawsko-Pomorskie-15.7 and Lubuskie-13.9. The lowest in the province Lesser Poland – 4.6, Łódź – 6.3 and in Pomeranian – 6.8.
The report also shows that in 2024 the most accidents occurred in May (10.1 percent of the total) and in July (9.9 percent). Most people were killed in October (10.3 percent) and in July (9.8 percent).
Fatal accidents. Conditions and place
Both in 2024, and in previous years, most accidents happened in good weather conditions, as well as at 13-19, i.e. in the period of increased traffic intensity (44.2 percent). At least from midnight to five o’clock. But it is at night that the most people die on unlit roads.
The report showed that in 2024 the vast majority of road accidents, because 15 134 (70.3 percent of the total) occurred in a built -up area. 695 people (36.7 percent) were killed in them, and 16,743 were injured (67.6 percent). Outside the built -up area, there were 6385 accidents (29.7 percent of the total), 1201 people (63.3 percent) were killed in them, and 8039 traffic participants (32.4 percent) were injured.
There were 12,985 accidents on straight road sections, and 5181 happened at the intersection with a road with priority.
There were 337 accidents on the highways, as a result of which 64 people died and 510 were injured. 4,121 accidents (19.2 percent of the total) occurred on national roads, 533 people died in them (28.1 percent of all killed), and 5094 people (20.6 percent of all wounded) were injured. Most accidents – just like a year ago – were recorded on road No. 7 and on roads No. 94, 91 and 12. There were 4,274 accidents on the provincial roads, as a result of which 512 people died and 5049 were injured.
Fatal events. Causes and perpetrators
In 2024, 19,636 accidents (91.2 percent of the total) occurred due to the fault of the drivers. As a result, 1629 people (85.9 percent) were killed and 22 924 were injured (92.5 percent). The main causes of accidents are: failure to pass the journey – 5169 accidents, failure to adapt speed to traffic conditions – 4269 accidents, failure to priority to pedestrian crossing – 2301 accidents.
Men were the perpetrators of accidents. They caused 73 percent. accidents. 23.6 percent Accidents were caused by women.
The report shows that in the last decade, the most road accidents and their victims were recorded in 2016. In 2017, a significant decrease occurred. In 2018 and 2019, the number of accidents and injured people decreased while increasing the number of killed.
