Ten tons of cocaine confiscated in the port of Dunkerque
The French customs confiscated ten tons of cocaine in the port of Dunkerque. This was confirmed by the public prosecutor's office in Paris of the German Press Agency. The central office for organized crime has taken over the investigation after the enormous find in the harbor on the North Sea. The drugs worth around 320 million euros were discovered last weekend in a container who had arrived from South America, the magazine « Paris Match » reported.
For comparison: 53.5 tons of cocaine in France were confiscated in France. As the broadcaster BFMTV reported, the find in Dunkerque is the largest in France away from the overseas areas. The public prosecutor regretted that the huge drug discovery had become public prematurely, which seriously affects the prospects of success of the investigation.

North French ports play a major role for cocaine import
The ports in northern France and especially in Le Havre have been important import ports for cocaine in Europe for years. The fact that the smuggling in Le Havre and other northern French ports such as Dunkerque has increased is also related to the expansion of these ports and the increasing envelope, as the newspaper « Le Parisien » reported. This was done because the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp came across their capacity limits.
The increase in drug trafficking with an estimated annual volume in France from three to six billion euros has now put Paris politics into an alarm state. A new law entitled « France free from the drug trap » is intended to prevent organized drug crime from infiltrating and damages state structures as in the Netherlands.
