Tempo limit on three motorways in Bavaria from May
Some commuters will be reluctant to hear, for others it has long been the highest time for it: in several Autobahn sections in the south of Bavaria A speed limit soon applies. The reason: a bad road state. The measure will take place from May, the South Bavarian branch of Autobahn GmbH announced. But what sections are affected and how quickly drivers can drivers still drive there?
Tempolimite 120 on dilapidated motorway sections in Bavaria
As can be seen from the communication of Autobahn GmbH, there will be uniform permissible top speeds of 120 km/h in the area of responsibility of the South Bavaria motorway « on a motorway sections that have not yet been renewed with old concrete road lanes ». In addition, it continues, motorcycles may only drive 80 km/h on the affected routes in the warmer months. « The reason for this is to ensure traffic safety on these motorway sections, » explains the operating company.
As a reason, it continues that the concrete lanes from the 1980s « exceeded the end of their planned period of use » and should now be renewed bit by bit from scratch. The sections are between 35 and 44 years old and, above all, became ailing, especially because of the high traffic load, especially due to heavy traffic.
New speed limit on parts of the A3, A92 and A93
Since 2013, there have been regular repairs to limit damage to these sections, as well as at 400-meter distances, more asphalt strips that reduce heat-related tension and prevent sudden heat damage. « Such heat damage can occur in particular on hot days and represent a danger for all road users, but especially for motorcyclists, » is explained.
But that is no longer enough. The new speed limits are now necessary to ensure traffic safety. Otherwise there can be serious accidents. The three Bavarian motorways A3, A92 and A93 are affected. Parts of the routes would have « significant damage to substance ».

Report: ADAC rated speed limit as appropriate
The new speed limits are only valid when the signage has been built up. This is to be gradually set up on the affected routes from the beginning of May 2025. They should then apply until the lanes on these sections have been « fundamentally renewed ». If the conditions are deteriorating, according to Autobahn GmbH, there could also be a further reduction in the permitted top speed.
Again Bavarian radio reports, the ADAC rate the speed limits as « appropriate ». A spokesman for the automotive club said that these were « simply necessary » if Autobahn GmbH comes to the conclusion that the sections affected could be dangerous at too high speeds.
