Teachers group that was « taken out of parentheses »

Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir says the labor market needs to be disciplined, following the outcome of teachers' wage agreements.

The state has general involvement in education in the country and the Minister of Education will fight for resources that will benefit the preschool and elementary school level in a general way.

« But the municipalities are, of course, those who made these agreements and need to abide by it, » she says in a conversation with mbl.is after a government meeting in Keflavik today, on funding for the municipalities to support the agreements with teachers.

About a different position

As has been reported, the teacher's wage negotiations were drawn up in excess of what the stability agreements had marketed last year.

Asked if she is concerned about the effects of these agreements on inflation, Kristrún is most important that « people hear the message that the state – and the public everything – will stick to the market signal, that is, the wage policy that was marked in wage agreements in the general labor market last year ». In the case of teachers, however, the value assessment of the value of the value has been decided and it has been decided to go the injection into the value assessment that the state intends to speed up and try to deliver results as soon as possible.

« In this way, this group is taken out of parentheses, but it will follow the final result in value assessment. »

Do you not fear that this well -known dolphin race will start?

« Of course, it is only important that people continue to respect the mark and in this case it is considered that this group is specially taken beyond parentheses. We are aware of the situation in play and elementary schools, we are aware that it was aiming for this value assessment, this is an injection into that value assessment, and in that case there is a different position. «

The state sends a clear message

So you wouldn't consider the stability agreements at risk, after this conclusion?

« Of course, the key point will now be that people respect the mark, and as I say what is fundamental is that the excess increases in question are in the form of value assessment, they are limited to the value assessment road and are injected into it and therefore,

Efling terminated one collective bargaining agreement yesterday and Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, chairman of Efling, has said that there is a new policy in collective bargaining and spoken as if it will be considered when it will be re -negotiated.

« Yes I have heard this message but I just draw attention to the fact that the tag is average – The average increase in collective bargaining agreements in the general labor market – and in the case of certain groups, there were more increases than the mark, « says Kristrún, asked an opinion on whether Sólveig Anna's comments are indicative that teachers' contracts are affecting other wage agreements.

« In this case, there is a group that is getting additional increases in the form and name of value assessment, and it is extremely important that there is a certain anchor there in the value assessment. It is not going to expand the mark in other respects and the state sends the clear message to the labor market that the mark needs to stand. «

Problems in hiring and staffing of teachers

Asked if she herself feared an impact on inflation, given that economists have warned of the impact of the agreement, Kristrún teachers do not say a large group of labor markets. The injection is part of the value assessment that has been intended for a good time.

“Now it is just important that we keep the mark and that the labor market shows a certain discipline. There are, of course, positive signs, we are seeing inflation falling, hopefully growth is declining and there is also increased scope for workers.

In this context, the framing is of utmost importance, it is taking a certain group out of parentheses, there have been problems when it comes to hiring and staffing in these areas, it always aimed at this value assessment, the state intends to speed up that value assessment to confirm these increases. So the form just matters as it always does in collective bargaining. «

The municipalities made the agreements and need to abide by them

Asked how the state intends to meet the municipalities regarding the agreements, given that funding is not clear, Kristrún replies that the state does not have access to agreements with games and elementary school teachers.

« Now KI was in agreement across their companies, which made it some of the people to sit together at meetings because it was being negotiated in that way, so that the state has not directly involved.

On the other hand, we are fully aware of the financial position of the municipalities and have been considering that it needs to be revised, for example, to form funding that relates to children's welfare and especially pale factors, when it comes to safety and nursing homes. «

« However, we are fully aware of the financial position of municipalities and have been considering it that it needs to be revised, for example, funding that relates to children's welfare and especially pale factors, when it comes to safety and nursing homes, » says Kristrún.

She expects that if you can find some way, there will be increased scope for the municipalities, « but the municipalities are of course those who made these agreements and need to abide by it. »

However, the state has general involvement in education in the country and, according to Kristrún, is with an ambitious Minister of Education, which will fight for resources that will benefit the preschool and elementary school level in a general way.

« Of course, we are responsible for ensuring that educational institutions in the country can stand up and that is why we are aware of the financial position of municipalities, but at the end of the day this is a general operation and will be viewed as such. »

The mergers of the Reykjanes are not particularly discussed

The merger of municipalities in the Reykjanes peninsula has been under discussion recently, but when asked, Kristrún says they have not been discussed specifically at the meeting today, at the end of the day, this is the decision of the local authorities.

She says, however, a new bill is expected to be on the Equalization Fund at the Minister of Transport and Local Government, which looks to encourage certain mergers in the area.

« But this will be the decision of the municipalities at the end of the day. »
