Tatar -Holguin meeting on May 26 – Cyprus Newspaper

President Ersin Tatar will accept Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, the personal representative of the United Nations (UN) Secretary General at 10.30 on Monday (May 26th). This meeting will take place within the scope of the first visit to the island after the re -appointment of Holguin.

Holguin will meet with Greek administration leader Nikos Hristpdulidis during his visit to Cyprus.

Holguín’s re -appointment process

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres re -appointed the former Foreign Minister of Colombia Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar as a personal representative on May 2, 2025. Holguin held the same position between January and July 2024 and found that there was no common ground to move to comprehensive negotiations as a result of the negotiations with the parties in this process.

Holguin’s re-appointment decision was taken after the reconciliation of the parties to appoint personal representatives at the expanded non-enlarged meeting in Geneva on 17-18 March 2025. The personal representative was appointed to follow the works in 6 initiatives in Geneva and to prepare for the expanded non -gayriresmi meeting, which was planned to be held at the end of next July.

TURKEY AND VISIT PROGRAM

Holguin’s new term of office officially started on May 12, 2025. Holguin, who will meet with President Ersin Tatar on May 26, is expected to make contacts in Türkiye and Greece as well as the Greek leader in the scope of his visit.

According to sources close to the Presidency, Holguin’s visit to the island will take place in the shadow of the aggressive policy, which the Greek leadership initiated for immovables in January 2024 and increased its dose day by day. This issue, which constantly climbs the tension between the two sides, will be one of the most important examinations that Holguin will face in Cyprus.
