Maros Sefcovic, a member of the European Union (EU) Commission, said that trade negotiations between the EU and the US should be carried out with mutual respect rather than threat.
Sefcovic shared his social media account after US President Donald Trump proposed a 50 percent tariff to the EU.
Stating that he had a meeting with US Trade Minister Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Sefcovic stressed that the EU is determined to make a trade agreement for the benefit of both sides.

US President Trump, in his share of Truth Social social media account, pointed out that the trade talks with the EU did not have anywhere, said:
“Therefore, I recommend that a 50 percent tariff is applied to the EU as of June 1. If the product is established or produced in the USA, customs duty will not be applied.”
