Swiss sheep breeders will no longer get rid of their wool
Where to go with all the wool? Why inflation and Federal Council savings plans bring sheep breeders into trouble
Swiss sheep farmers hardly get rid of their shears. Even though the wool can be made much more than blankets. A Valais black nose breeder now wants to take the matter into his own hands.
The 70 black nasal sheep from Rinaldo Pfammatter goes to the fur twice a year. Once you will be shorn in autumn when you return from the Alp and once in spring. The skin can recover, and it is prevented from nesting parasites in the wool.
Pfammatter no longer finds a buyer for the wool.
Schafbauer Pfammatter sees it more relaxed. He thinks about taking the matter in his own hands and founding a company that processes Swiss sheep’s wool. Specifically, he wants to process the wool into fertilizer pellets – a comparatively favorable type of wool recycling. He is already in contact with a possible investor, and an offer for a pellet animal system to crush the wool, the Oberwalliser has already caught up.
« I want everyone to benefit, » says Pfammatter. Schafbauer and end seller. The goal is to guarantee sheep farmers like him to accept their wool at a fair price. And: that as little sheep’s wool as possible ends up in the waste. But a big question is still open: does he find a customer for this?
