Swiss canton of Valais organizes record-raclette meal
Käschaber broke a record in Martigny in the Swiss canton of Valais with a raclette meal with 4,893 guests. « This is a phenomenal success – what an enthusiasm of the audience and the scraper! », Baillifard cheered, who had organized the record.
The French had torn the raclette crown under their nail last year. A good 2,200 guests of melted cheese was served in Saint-Etienne, and around 2,500 guests two weeks ago.
The Valais were offended in their honor. After all, they have always celebrated themselves as the cradle of the true raclett and they wanted to bring the culinary crown into Valais.
« We could not leave the world record for the largest raclette to the French, » said Samuel Bonvin, the director of the MyExpo exhibition area, where the food took place. Raclette is a cultural heritage of Valais and the Valais raclette cheese unique.

In the traditional raclette, the cheese for melting does not come under a table grill in a slide, as is common. Rather, half of the cheese raid is melted on the open fire or on a barbecue rod and scraped onto the plate. The name « Raclette » is derived from the French verb « Racler » (cockroaches). The cheese is eaten with potatoes.
According to the organizers, 361 Racletteure were deployed to operate the 4,893 guests, which scraped the melted onto the plates.
