Swiss Army’s tips consider buying a cruise missile for 1000 kilometers
Swiss army thinks about: she wants to buy rockets that can fly 1000 kilometers
There is talk of a paradigm shift: the army no longer just wants to prevent a potential enemy at the national border. It is considering buying a high range of marching aircraft.
It is 4.2 meters long, weighs 1200 kilograms and has a armor -breaking explosive head of 454 kilograms. As a camouflage weapon, he escapes the radar and interceptors, can fight stationary and movable high value goals – and flies 1000 kilometers.
The AGM-158B-2 Jassm marching aircraft is an object of desire for many countries. The USA, Israel and Australia have it; Poland, Japan and the Netherlands have guaranteed him; Finland and Germany ordered it. Germany 75 of it.
The Swiss army leaders are also seriously considering procuring the US marching missile. It would be fired from fighter plane F-35, from which Switzerland ordered 36 pieces. Corresponding considerations are in the corridor for the new army message from 2028 to 2031.
With any procurement, the army leaders pursue two goals: First, it wants to have the opportunity for far -reaching countermocks in the future. She would make it to London, Hamburg, Barcelona, Prague, Budapest and Belgrade to London, Hamburg, Hamburg, Barcelona. And from St. Margrethen even to Warsaw. Second, potential attackers should be held.

What many do not know: Dissuasion does not have the same military meaning as deterrent. The term deterrent comes from the Cold War when two superpowers are opposed to the United States and the Soviet Union. Albert A. Stahel, in the 1970s head of the research center for basic security policy studies at the Central Office for Total Defense, defined deterrence as follows: Each of the two powers could threaten the other with the annihilation with nuclear weapons. « None can switch off the potential of the opposite side. »
Dissuasion, on the other hand, is war prevention through willingness to defend. The Federal Council wrote in 1973 in his report « Conception of the overall defense »: « Serial willingness to defend encompasses the visible determination and material ability to withstand an enemy attack, even if the strongest means are used not only against the army but also against the population. »
The American political scientist Horst Mendershausen, fled to Switzerland in 1933 in 1933, defined Dissuasion more easily: « If you use forces against me, I will thwart your armed forces on my own territory. »
The army chief is aimed at the new threats
Mendershausen’s definition illustrates: If poor chief Süssli uses the term dissuasion, it indirectly refers to the Second World War and the Cold War. However, he adapted the term and transferred it into modern times: the army wants to be able to hold a potential opponent beyond the national border.
Army spokesman Hofer confirms this. « There are army -internal considerations in the passage to strengthen the retention effect in the future with funds that could be used over the national border over further distances, » he says. « Such skills can signal a potential opponent that an attack with high costs and risks would be associated. »
Hofer wants to “not comment” on possible new weapons systems such as the AGM-158B-2 marching aircraft, as he can hold. « Political decisions are required. » For the period until 2027, the structure of the ability to combat goals at a greater distance is not an issue anyway. The current army message for the years 2024 to 2027 requires investments in the ground troops.
« In the 2030s, the procurement of a rocket artillery system, but also armed drones, various air-floor cubes, steeped bombs or loitering ammunition are considered to be options, » says Hofer. The most likely is a combination of these means.
Himars is also a topic – successful in Ukraine
The army already records progress in the fire at a distance in artillery and in the ground air defense. « With the new bike -based artillery system in the armaments message in 2025, we will at least achieve an impact distance of 50 kilometers, » says Milizoffician Holenstein. However, the development continues rapidly. « Army and Armasuisse think, with the right look, also about procuring the Himar artillery system from 2035. » Himars has a range of 100 to 300 kilometers and had great success in Ukraine.
Switzerland has already ordered five patriot systems of large scope-160 kilometers-in the United States during the soil-air defense. In addition, negotiations in the corridor to order four to five of the floor-air defense system Iris T medium range from the German manufacturer Diehl Defense. These steering bodies reach 40 kilometers and are said to fight enemy planes, helicopters and steering weapons.
