Sweden overtaken by the United States in the semi -finals of the World Cup

Sweden overtaken by the United States in the semi -finals of the World Cup

It was the World Cup party outside Avicii Arena on Saturday. It was a day when even the sun showed up.

Everything was designed for a fun day for the Swedish hockey fans. It became something completely different.

In the first two periods of the semi-finals, Sweden made its worst effort during the World Cup days in Stockholm. Young US, with only two players over 30, was classes better.

Three Kronor got no order on the game neither forward nor backwards. It was a fault pass in masses, weak defense games, and only on a few occasions was it a comprehensive attack game.

What would be a party was an unexpectedly rejected event. Admittedly, Sweden woke up in the third period, and created a certain tension at least for a few minutes, but there was never really a talk about which team would win.

The basis for The Swedish loss was placed in the first period.

The United States started the match with speed and Frenesi, won the shot statistics by 13-3, and did a bit that they wanted on the ice.

Sweden ended up directly on the heels, and also got a tough start to the seminar when William Nylander ended up in the deportation booth after only 27 seconds.

Until the semi -finals, Sweden had only let in a goal in boxplay, and then in game three against five. This time, too, Tre Kronor started the game in numerical disadvantage in a really good way. With a few seconds left of the numerical superiority, the United States managed to create a really dangerous chance where Tre Kronor’s goalkeeper Jacob Markström made a fantastic rescue.

The start gave US Young Team an extra dose of confidence that made them completely dominated the first period, and in the seventh minute, Markström could not resist.

The United States won a drawing in the offensive zone, and Brady Skjei sent from the blue line a wrist shot that resulted in 1-0.

With just over two minutes left of the period, Cutter Gauthier on the lead increased to 2-0.

Sweden started the second period slightly better, but did not create really sharp goal chances.

As a result, the third goal of the match was also scored by the United States. Almost eleven minutes of the second period were played when Conor Garland scored the 3-0 goal, again after a weak Swedish defense game.

When the US Mikey Eyssimont expanded on the lead to 4-0, after a game turn where the Swedish players completely went away, with just under three minutes left of the period, then parts of the audience chose to bow out the Swedish players when the second period was over.

Before the third period Sweden made a goalkeeper change to bring about a change. Jacob Markström had to stay in the booth, and Samuel Ersson took place between the posts. Some changes were also made in the chains.

Then things happened.

With just over 13 minutes left of regular time, William Nylander reduced to 4-1, after a good pass from Rasmus Andersson. 41 seconds later Elias Lindholm made 4–2, and suddenly there was hope.

But in the middle of the hunt for another Swedish goal, the United States instead increased on the lead to 5-2 after a rapid counter -attack. That goal definitely decided the match.

Sweden certainly invested everything on a card and picked out the goalkeeper with just over four minutes left. But this resulted in the United States being able to increase the lead to 6-2, just 18 seconds after the goal cage became empty.

The United States, which has only taken two World Cup golds throughout the history, plays the World Cup final on Sunday with a drop in 20.20. For Sweden, a bronze match awaits 15.20.
