SVP is heading against Swiss protective clause
SVP is shining against the protective clause, even though it fulfills a heart concern
Thanks to the new contracts with the EU, the Federal Council can limit immigration. In doing so, he implements the mass immigration initiative with an eleven -year delay. But the SVP is still not satisfied.
They are complaints that the Federal Council also knows: more traffic, less free apartments, built -in nature. How many people tolerate Switzerland? The SVP has a clear answer: it wants to limit the constant resident population in Switzerland to 10 million people by 2050. The party has been bothered by the “uncontrolled immigration” for years, which negatively affects all areas of life. The “10 million Switzerland initiative” should stop them.
Now the Federal Council comes before: via a protective clause in the EU agreement with the EU, he wants to regulate immigration himself if « serious economic or social problems » – for example due to increasing hours or a lack of rental apartments.
But the SVP does not want to know anything about these measures. It calls the Federal Council’s procedure as a « protective clause Bschiss » because the new protective clause does not differ from the old one. SVP parliamentary group leader Thomas Aeschi says: «So far, the Federal Council has never called the protective clause. Nothing will change. Because the trigger points are the same as before. »
It is true: The prerequisite for calling the protective clause remains that immigration in Switzerland causes serious economic and social problems. However, the mechanism is new: to implement measures, Switzerland is no longer dependent on the EU’s consent. A self -empowerment would lead to the bilateral contracts today. It is now legally secured, as the responsible Federal Councilor Beat Jans explains.
Thomas Aeschi, on the other hand, keeps: In the new agreement on the free movement of people, there is nothing of a way in Switzerland to limit immigration. In addition, there is no guarantee for the implementation of measures. « The Federal Council must check the call of the protective clause whether it does it is still up to it. »
Deception of maneuvers or brilliant move?
The situation has a certain irony: The SVP has been criticizing for eleven years that the mass immigration initiative, which was assumed at the time, has never been implemented. Now the Federal Council is finally fulfilling the demand for maximum numbers and thresholds for immigration – and the SVP is fighting against it.
What’s going on there? Aeschi speaks of a « large deception ». The Federal Council wants to sell the newly negotiated contracts to the people via the protective clause. In doing so, she remains ineffective. The SVP initiative is therefore needed to stop immigration.
Federal Councilor Beat Jans explains to the accusation that the protective clause and the new contracts are the “counter-recipe” on the SVP initiative. The latter would result in the termination of the bilateral path and would completely restrict Switzerland’s scope for action. In view of the current world situation, the Federal Council does not consider this to be a good solution. Jans: « The protective clause enables us to expand our scope for action by stabilizing the bilateral contracts and at the same time receiving a handy instrument to control immigration. »
