Svantesson and Damberg about the breed for Swedish exports to the United States.

Svantesson and Damberg about the breed for Swedish exports to the United States.

Business Sweden uses words such as historically low level, overthrow and clapping about Export manager index for the second quarter.

For the expected export demand from North America, the index fell dramatically from 56.5 first quarter to 26.3 second quarter. A figure below 50 shows that more are pessimistic than optimistic by the export companies’ managers.

– More than ever right now in the export market, noted Lena Sellgren, chief economist at Business Sweden.

Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson believes that the new figures confirm the image of uncertainty and unpredictability that prevails now.

– The administration both decisions and non -decisions really puts a wet blanket over Swedish companies, she says.

Will you do something more now because of this, support or similar?

– First of all, we need to know where the customs will land. We follow this question day by day and of course we have a dialogue with with export companies. We are always prepared to do more, says the finance minister.

She also points out that negotiations with the United States are being held on customs at EU level.

– It is a strength that our consumer market is greater than theirs. This means that we can have an impact in the negotiations, says Elisabeth Svantesson.

But the Social Democrats Economic-political spokesperson Mikael Damberg wants to see more support for the export companies in the difficult situation. He points out that in their shadow budget they have added SEK 50 million to support Swedish export companies.

At the same time as he claims that the government is reducing the support in its spring budget.

– I was incredibly surprised when the government presented its spring motion that it contained nothing to take into account this situation, says Mikael Damberg.

He believes that the new figures from Business Sweden are not surprising but very serious.

– It is clear that for a small export -dependent country like Sweden, the US market plays a big role. So this customs chaos that Trump has created also hurts Swedish industry and creates a lot of uncertainty, says Mikael Damberg.

An extra support should be held together of the College of Commerce but also include actors such as Business Sweden, the Export Credit Committee and the College of Commerce, he says.

– It can help small and medium-sized companies navigate, provide information and update in this difficult situation, says Mikael Damberg.

Finance Minister rejects the criticism from the opposition party. She points out, among other things, that the government has raised the credit framework for the export credit committee by SEK 50 billion. The Export Credit Committee can insure companies against the risk of not being paid at foreign stores.

– And in the budget for the current year, for example, we increase the investment in Business Sweden’s assignment.
