Suspects of burning bus in riots after Odair’s death liberated
The two detainees in pre -trial detention on suspicions of setting an bus on the riots after Odair Moniz’s death were released at the request of the Public Prosecution Service (MP). The MP maintains the case in secret and investigation.
According to the District of Lisbon Norte, the two suspects who were arrested ceased to pre -trial detention in a case on 18 March and in another May 26. One of the defendants was subject to an identity and residence term (TIR) and prohibition of contacts with the other defendants and the other only subject to.
“The defendants were refunded to freedom by the instructional judge, following the promotion of the Public Prosecution Service” (MP), said the District of Lisbon North to the Lusa Agency, about the end of the measure of coercion of pre -trial detention.
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR), questioned about the reasons that led to the request for liberation by the MP, said only that the inquiry is under investigation, “subject to secrecy of justice” and “has no arrested defendants”.
The two released defendants had been in pre -trial detention since November 28, and a third party detained for the same evidence was released at that time by the Loures Court Judge. At the time it was consisted of the MP only on suspicions of drug trafficking.
The two young people were indicted for the crimes of qualified homicide in tempted form, fire and damage. They were arrested on suspicion of provoking the fire in a bus in Santo António do Cavaleiros, Loures, who in October 2024 seriously injured the driver, leaving him with permanent sequelae.
For several nights there were riots in several neighborhoods of Greater Lisbon after the death of Cape Verdean citizen Odair Moniz, 43 and resident in the Zambujal neighborhood, was shot by a PSP agent on October 21, in the Cova da Moura neighborhood, having died shortly later.
During the riots, more buses, dozens of cars and waste containers were set on fire, but the attack that made serious condition the driver is the most serious in investigation.
In May, the PGR confirmed that the inquiries open to the riots had so far gave rise to five accusations, without having to refer to.
