Suspect who stabbed the praying Muslim to death in southern France, reports at Italian police station
Olivier A., the man who is suspected of stabbing a praying Muslim in a mosque in La Grand-Combe in southern French, reported on Sunday evening to a police station in the Italian city of Pistoia. The French news agency AFP reports this on the basis of the public prosecutor Abdelkrim Grini. He states that his transfer to France is currently being worked on.
Last Friday the Malian Muslim Aboubakar Cissé was stabbed to death in a mosque in La Grand-Combe while he was praying there. He is said to have been stabbed forty to fifty times. The perpetrator made a video of his act. « I did it (…), your fucking Allah, » the perpetrator would have said France24while the victim was dying. « I’m going to become a serial killer, » he cried according to the French newspaper Le Monde. Then the man fled.
After the stabbing, more than seventy agents went looking for the suspect. Olivier A., a man from early 20, was born in Lyon and would be unemployed at the moment, write French media. What he eventually did in Italy is unknown.
Islamophobic climate
In French society there was a shocked response to the death of Cissé. Thousands of people went into the street in the former French mining town, where the crime took place. During another protest in Paris, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the leader of the extremely left-wing party La France Insoumise (LFI), the conservative Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleu of driving an « Islamophobic climate, » said French media.

He also turned against Islamic athletes who want to wear a headscarf. Retaillleau called a veil a sign of submission. « Long live the sport, and therefore away with the veil, » he said.
After the deed in the mosque Le Grand-Combe, the minister spoke to his X-channel From a « horrible » act. « I would like to express my support to the family of the victim and express my solidarity with the Muslim community affected by this barbaric violence, » said Retailleeau.
