Survey: Germans have no trust in the USA and Israel – the world
Which countries are trusted partners for Germany? How do citizens judge the chancellor of Friedrich Merca? Answers to these and other questions brings research to Dojčandtrend German Public Service Ard.
How to prepare to meet with US President Donald Tramp? The question today must be answered every head or government, since Tramp in an oval cabinet publicly humiliated Ukrainian president of Volodimir’s Green and South African president ramaphos.
Chancellor Friedrich Merc (CDU) has not passed a course from a sobbing to visit the tramp, the Government spokesman Štefan Kornelius emphasized. Chancellor travels relaxed in Washington, and because Germany as the third largest economy in the world has something to offer.
Much more money to defend
Friedrich Merc in Washington carries, among other things, a plan to become a « strongest conventional army in Europe ». It likes to the American President, just like what is considered – that all members of NATO should set five percent of their economic for defense.
However, only half of German citizens believe that it is appropriate. For a third of the examined, the goal of five percent go too far.
This shows the results of the most recent ARD research of the notion of infringementTrand for which in early June, the Infratest Dimap representatively examined 1292 German voters.
The polls of citizens asked and what are the expectations of meeting Tramp and Merca in White House: 46 per cent believe that German Chancellor would make a good relationship with the American President, while 44 thinks it will fail. Basically, 47 percent of citizens believe that new chancellor does not have enough diplomatic skills for foreign policy challenges, while 40 percent of that skill is credited.
What countries are Germany to trust?
Close connections with the United States, as well as Israel, are part of the identity of German policy. At the same time, it is obvious that the distance has increased – and in the eyes of voters.
After Donald Tramp, President of the United States trust in that country has significantly dropped at the current 18 percent. That Israel is a reliable partner to which Germany can believe, in October 2024. it considered 27 percent of Germans – now only another 16 percent. And in Russia as a partner, only 10 percent of German voters believe.
Ukraine has support from 48 percent in this regard, while neighboring France is traditionally graded – currently 83 percent.
Sharp Criticism on Israel’s account
The military reaction of Israel on the attacks of the Hamas terrorist organization in the fall of 2023. she left a trace. As many as 63 percent of German citizens believe that Israeli action in Gaza is excessively, while only 18 percent see it as appropriate.
As many as 77 percent of respondents considered Canceller Merca criticized Israel because of the current military shares in Gaza. Only every eighth citizen thinks that Germany should be unconditionally in the Middle East Conflict.
At the same time, almost half of the surveyedly accepts the idea of a special German obligation to protect Israel.
For the humanitarian situation of the Palestinian civilian population in Gazinicci, they previously blamed Hamas than Israel. Now almost an equal number of citizens blames and Israel (69 percent) and Islamist Hamas (71 percent).
Accordingly, most are open to review Germany’s military aid: 43 percent are committed to the limit of exports to Israel, while an additional 30 percent advocate for its complete interruption. Only every sixth respondent (17 percent) believes that the German government should continue to approve the export of weapons Israel without changes. Germany, after the United States, is the most important supplier of Israel by weapons.
Friedrichu Mercu has increased the reputation
The new federal government consisting of CDU / CSU and SPD in power since May. With the first weeks of the red-black coalition work, 40 percent of citizens are satisfied. In the so-called Semafor coalition of SPD, green and FDP, at the beginning of 2022. This share was slightly higher – 46 percent.
Friedrich Merc, however, received significantly from the entry into popularity from the entry into the office. With his work, 39 percent of the surveyed – there were 14 percent less in April. Both Vicekancel and Finance Minister Lars Klingbail (SPD) also has 39 percent of support.
The only high politician with which most citizens were satisfied was the Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD).
Restrained expectations from a new government
How much confidence does the Germans have in a new government? When it comes to content, attitudes are not different from those who have recorded the interviewers immediately after early parliamentary elections.
Half of citizens believe that a new government team can strengthen German economy (55 percent; +1), as well as to better represent German interests in the world (52 percent; +1).
Skepsa, however, is grown slightly – when it comes to establishing security in the country (43 percent; -4) and effective migration management (38 percent; -4). There have also been doubts that the red-black coalition can provide social security in Germany (37 percent; -6).
Union increases preference in relation to AFD
Is that a consequence of the increase in the Support to the Chancellor Friedrich Mercu? If the next week, the Bundestag, CDU / CSU would be re-elected for 29 percent of votes (+2) – therefore a better result than in February elections. The SPD, which is in the coalition with the Union, records a slight decline and would fall for 15 percent (-1).
AFD would remain at the same level with 23 percent support (+/- 0). The green and the left could count on twelve (+1), ie nine percent (-1). All other parties would remain below the election census for entering the Bundestag – among them and the Alliance of Sara Vagenknecht (BSW) and FDP, at four percent, without change.
