Surprised how quiet the passengers were

The service boat Örn ÍS frá Háafell in Ísafjörður was the first on the site after the passenger boat Gunna Valgeir became the engine outside of Ögur in Ísafjörður in the twelfth time today.

44 passengers were on board the boat along with a three -man crew and did not hurt anyone.

« We were three miles away in the skating fjord working on the cattle (aquariums) with a diver. When we heard of the situation we got off and were the first on the scene, » says captain Veigar Árni Jónsson, asked.

With the nerve between for safety

Although the slide was only about 100 meters due to fog, hopes have gone beyond helping the passenger boat.

« We were hooking him when the rescue team came from Sudavík. There were great conditions, poor visibility but no wind, » he reports.

Örn was with Guna Valgeir in tow for about one and a half hours, of which rescue operations lasted for about 40 minutes. First, 15 passengers were taken off the table and then more.

« We had the nerve in between to assurance that he does nothing more to the tide, » says Veigar Árni about the passenger boat.

Would not have been allowed to pass a long time

Asked how high there was a risk of traveling, he says the passenger boat was about 100 to 150 meters from the shore at the time. « It would not have been a long time, but those from the rescue team in Sudavík had arrived at a similar time, » replies the captain, and believes that the boat could have ended in the shore had rescue operations started about 20 minutes later.

« It’s incredibly cool what everyone was up to in a short time. 15 minutes after we arrived there were six boats in the area, then eight to nine within half an hour after we arrived. »

The passengers ready on tire

According to Veigar Árni, all the passengers of the passenger boat, who had arrived in Ísafjörður, were on a cruise ship, standing on the tire ready to leave a rescue board when Örn arrived on the scene and they seemed very quiet about the state of affairs. It surprised him. Many have had cameras on the air.

« It was a lot of older people so it was slow to get it over in the lifeboats. It happened slowly. »

He adds: « The crew has done well to keep them quiet. It was all the quietest way when we arrived, despite the fact that they were short of land. »

Security to have four divers on board

Asked the captain he had previously dragged boats, but now he has for the first time thrown a nerve in need.

« It just went very well. I hope I don’t have to do this again, but you are in practice at all, » he says, also mentioning that it has provided a great sense of security to have four divers on board who had been working with him in Skötufjörður.
