About 70 supporters from Union went to watch the match of rival Club Brugge in Union’s Taverne on Sunday afternoon. However, festivities did not follow. « We knew that the chance was going to be little, but if it did happen, I would definitely be here. »
On Sunday afternoon, Union had to hope for a misstep from Club Brugge near Anderlecht to be able to call itself a match day before the end of the competition. But after 45 minutes it was already clear that the champagne will stay in the fridge for another week. « It was quite unlikely that Bruges would lose on Anderlecht today, but you never know. If Union would have played champions today, I just had to be there, » says Timothy Anthonis (48), who looks at the Clerq with comrade Jutgen at the match.

Next week at home against AA Gent, Union gets a new chance. « Then I will be in the stadium, but the title stress will really strike. I am really afraid that it will miss out four years after each other. »

Yet Anthonis thinks it will work this time. « We just have a very strong team, individually it might be a little less, but the team depends well. In addition, they did not show a sign of title stress in the match against Antwerp yesterday. »

Olivier Eich (38) and Olivier Noisiez (48) soon gave up the hope for a title party. « So it will be for next week and that will normally be fine. The people of Ghent don’t give the Club Brugge, so I don’t expect too much resistance, » they say. « Yet there will be a lot of stress with us. Those three missed titles have really been a trauma. We really can’t handle a fourth trauma anymore. »
