Supply of Algerian gas provided for several years
Geoplin and Algerian company Sonatrach have signed an extension of the supply of natural gas at the Presidential Palace in Ljubljana today, which will provide Slovenia with smooth supply with this energy in the coming years. Based on the signed contract, Geoplin will continue to provide a smooth supply of natural gas to its customers in Slovenia and abroad.
With the conclusion of the agreement, Slovenian Geoplin and Algerian Sonatrach are still strengthening the bonds in the field of energy, and both parties also expressed a desire to find new opportunities for partnerships in the future. The signing of the contract was attended by Prime Minister Robert Golob and the president of the Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The agreement is also of strategic importance for Algeria, as Sonatrach with this agreement increases its presence in the Slovenian energy market, while responding to the growing demand for natural gas on the European market. Collaboration between societies not only strengthens the presence of Algeria on the international scene, but also confirms its commitment to further expansion and strengthening of the areas of bilateral economic cooperation.
The Algerian delegation was accepted by the President with military honors for a two -day official visit Nataša Pirc Musar. President Tebboun is accompanied by ministers from various fields and a number of economic delegation.
Economic cooperation between the two countries dates back to the time of the former Yugoslavia, and the countries have only been established last year. Algeria is the third most important economic partner of Slovenia among African countries, with bilateral exchange reaching EUR 95.6 million in 2024.
At talks between the presidents, one of the key topics was to strengthen cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, police cooperation, renewable energy sources (solar and wind energy), agriculture and beekeeping, and information and communication, water and space technologies. Several memorandums of consent and cooperation were signed as part of the visit, which will facilitate further integration.
Even space technologies
At the initiative of Algeria, a memorandum on consent between the Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport and the Algerian Space Agency (French Agency Spatiale Algérienne – Asal) of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria on Cooperation in the Field of Space Activities for Peaceful purposes was signed.

Strengthening police cooperation

The proposed memorandum expresses the readiness of both countries until deepening and strengthening cooperation in various areas of the police of both countries.
The two countries want to encourage participation in all key areas of police activity, especially in the fight against cross -border crime, migration management and training and exchange of experience.
Pigeon on four eyes
Pigeon and Tebbouna have signed a common declaration of the Government of Slovenia and the Government of Algeria, which focuses primarily on the areas of upgrading bilateral relations. At the same time, it contains a common position of both countries on the central foreign policy issues of the international community, such as the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East with an emphasis on Gaza. In bilateral talks, Golob and Tebboun expressed their willingness to extend cooperation in the future to the field of education, research and water management.
Pigeon said that they share a very similar view of the Middle East situation with President Tebboun. « Algeria and Slovenia are committed to the immediate termination of fire and the immediate establishment of humanitarian aid access to the residents of Gaza, » said the PM, urging the Israeli government led by Prime Minister Netanyahu to do everything in their power to interrupt hostility and provide humanitarian aid access to Gaza. Tebboune thanked Slovenia for their ethical and moral attitude.
The Prime Minister also welcomed the recent hostage release. “We want the Palestinian nation to finally be able to expect its right to self -determination. We believe that the United Nations are the institution that provides not only international peace, but also, above all, respect for uniform rules for all nations around the world, regardless of their power or size. Therefore, we will always advocate that disputes are being sought after the United Nations, « he said.
Tebboune said that Slovenia and Algeria are negotiating to participate in many other fields, including in the field of pharmaceutical products, artificial intelligence, water and space technology. He added that Slovenia has specific knowledge in the field of water, so he is convinced that the friendly country will expand their cooperation to the field of space technologies and control or monitor water from space.
