Sunny extended Weekend leads to exceptional traffic: 250 kilometers of traffic jam measured

It is exceptionally busy on the highways towards the coast. In total there was 250 kilometers of traffic jams on the Belgian main roads just before noon on Thursday.

The hustle and bustle towards the coast at the start of this sunny extension 1 May weekend was predicted, and that prediction is also true. On the Flemish main roads there is currently a little more than 200 kilometers of traffic jams according to the Flemish Traffic Center, which speaks of an « exceptional crowds ».
It is not very surprising to sit on the Antwerp and to a lesser extent Brussels ring, and on the E40 between Brussels and the coast.
On the Antwerp Ring towards Ghent you lose 1.15 hours between Merksem and the Kennedytunnel. You lose almost an hour between Ranst and Kruibeke. In the direction of the Netherlands it is 45 minutes to join Antwerp Linkeroever and Borgerhout.
You will also lose 45 minutes on the E313 towards Antwerp between Lummen and Massenhove and Antwerp-East.
On the E40 towards the coast there is a traffic jam between Oordegem and Drongen for more than 45 minutes. Further on between Aalter and Oostkamp you lose fifteen minutes. Also on the E40 towards Brussels it is 12 minutes to join Aalst and the Brussels Ring.
