Sumar Movement will vote in its assembly the policy of alliances with other leftist forces | Spain
Promote alliances with other political forces of the left with the aim of revalidating the progressive coalition in the next generals. Those will be two of the messages that will leave the Summar Movement Assembly (MS) this weekend and in which a new address will be chosen after the resignation of Yolanda Díaz in June to the general coordination. The party plans to vote two proposals this Saturday to set a confluence policy that promotes the agreement with diverse formations and establish its goal in the 2027 electoral horizon.
The vote is relevant because it will largely define the road map after more than a year of internal turbulence, with the formations to the left of the PSOE low in the surveys, and exactly 12 months after the founding assembly in which Sumar Movement aspired to integrate other forces of the Electoral Coalition in its structures (United Left, Catalonia in Comú or Verdes Equo, among others). The Assembly is also celebrated at a time of absolute distance with Podemos, very critical of the group led by Yolanda Díaz, and with the new IU leader, Antonio Maíllo, also handling these months a discourse of defense of the unit.
The conclave, which culminates on Sunday with a rally in which the vice president will intervene, in any case see Elizabeth Duvalwhich he exercised as one of the four interim coordinators since June.
All this after a week especially agitated in the government, after the Sánchez appearance In the lower house to address the commitment to increase defense spending, an issue that divides the parties of the parliamentary group of adding and on which, in principle, it is not planned to open debate at the tables planned this Saturday. The other brawl among government partners has been on the taxation of the minimum wage. The clash between the departments of Finance and Labor, which lasted more than a month, went up publicly this Friday with the intervention of Diaz live on television, denouncing that the Treasury « had risen from the negotiating table. » An hour later, however, the advertisement of a pact To prevent the PSOE will veto a proposal of law to add that it reversed the decision that forced the SMI to pay the personal income tax this year, the fight settled.
New coordinators and documents
The current Secretary of Organization, Lara Hernández, who will leave that function at the stage that opens, and the deputy and economist Carlos Martín, will be elected both new general coordinators together with the rest of the expanded direction of the formation. Díaz, second vice president in the Executive of Pedro Sánchez, resigned from his position in the party after the Batacazo in the European ones, but will continue in the dome as an institutional coordinator and responsible for the government action, a formula that guarantees that he continues to continue linked to the organization and leaves the door open to the fact that he can present again, something that has not yet made a decision. Díaz still has an enormous influence on MS’s decisions, is the maximum public reference of the coalition as a whole and despite having lost support, it is still emerging as its greatest electoral asset.
In a very complex legislature context, without budgets in sight and marked by the paradigm shift in Europe, Sumar Movement, defined as a “Labor, Ecosocialist, Feminist, Anti -Racist and Plurinational” force, will continue trying to boost its policies in Congress and the Government (from the reduction of the workday of the Labor Department, to the permits of conciliation or universal income Social Rights) and will claim its role to continue contributing to the cohesion of the political space, having bridges with the rest of the organizations in order to revalidate the July 2023 agreement, a intention that the vice president already expressed in Januarygiving wings back to the debate on the unit on the left, especially with the unknown of Podemos.
The Assembly, which will take place between Rivas-Vaciamadrid (symbolic city for being a historical bastion of the left in the Community of Madrid, where IU governs since 1991) and the capital, will also approve the new Plan for the action of the party, with the political and organizational documents. The conclave de facto supposes the consolidation of the movement to add as a classical formation and the renunciation of becoming the umbrella of other leftist forces, although it aspires to open to society.
In its organizational proposal, the training recognizes that one of the main challenges of the project is to “have territorial roots”, one of the most sensitive points, and on which MS finally establishes an unequal model. Until now, it has been founded as a very modest game in Galicia and Euskadi, and has chosen regional spokesmen in 10 other autonomous communities. In the text to vote, the party states that it is committed to a federal and plurinational model that « must respect and be consistent with the particularities and characteristics of the different territories and nations of the State. » It defines its relationship with formations such as more Madrid, common or united left as “on foot of equality” and discards developing in Catalonia, where it is recognized in the common ones. In the new document disappears, therefore, The 30% of members quota in the policy reserved for politicians of other formations approved a year ago and it is advocated to attend with different forces following the example of the generals. The document defends that the choice of lists is made through “primary systems, with inclusive rules and open to civil society”, one of the main friction points with the Belarra Party in 2023.
At this stage, deputies Rafael Cofiño and Francisco Sierra, this last IU militant and who in line with what was expressed by several parties, showed his criticisms for a decision -making lacking from « Transparency and internal democracy » in matters such as Errejón’s choice as a spokesman. But profiles such as Minister Ernest Urtasun (current spokesman), and state secretaries Joaquín Pérez Rey, Amparo Merino and Rosa Martínez are still relevant.
The Congress of these days will be attended by parties of the state and international level, but the presence of ministers Mónica García (more Madrid) or Sira Rego (IU) that did intervene a year ago is not planned. That assembly had a very low participation. Only 8,179 people then voted, although months before the organization proclaimed a figure of 70,000 registered. In this case there may be no comparisons, the Sumar Movement has changed the election method and will be done through a system of territorial delegates: about 500 in total.
