Successor from Burkart as FDP President: Free-minded federal councils talk along
FDP is looking for the Burkart successor: Free-minded federal councils talk to them
The Commission, which is looking for the new FDP president, stands out with an unusual composition.
Anyone who wants to become President of the FDP can contact National Councilor Beat Walti by August 20. Walti has the chair of the finding commission, the composition of which he announced on Thursday.
It is noticeable: The commission is not a freedom of politicians who, as a candidate, act on the successor of Thierry Burkart. This means that no possible applicant is already taking out the race. Anyone who participates in the Commission cannot be elected.
The ten-member committee includes National Councilor Daniela Schneeberger, Council of States Josef Dittli, politicians from Romandia and Ticino-as well as a personal employee of Federal Councilor Karin Keller-Sutter and the deputy general secretary in the Department of Foreign Affairs of Federal Council of Ignazio Cassis.
The party is under pressure
Two confidants of the FDP federal councils are therefore a member of the Commission, who prepares the election of the new party president. Beat Walti emphasizes that it is not about influence; Rather, the Commission wants to use experience as broad as possible.
Of course, the personnel constellation now makes it possible for the FDP federal councils to have an impact on the presidential election: Keller-Sutter and Cassis can keep up to date with who is good in the race and who is not-and you can tell your confidant that the commission may listen to this or that applicant again.
The composition of the group may be explained by the pressure under which the FDP is. If the series of election defeats will not come to an end soon, the free -senses threaten the loss of a Federal Council seat. The FDP federal councils now apparently want to have a say in an important personnel decision-so that the party finds back on the winning road.
The finding commission will inform its findings by September 5 in writing to the conference of the cantonal party presidents. The conference made an election proposal to the FDP delegate assembly on October 17th. On October 18, the delegates decide who will lead the party in the future.
