1 THE’8 and 9 June In Italy it will vote for 5 repeal referendums on work and citizenship. What are the topics of the questions?

Four referendums were promoted by CGIL with dozens of associations and concern work, safety at work, layoffs: After more than 4 million signatures, the questions were declared eligible by the Constitutional Court. The fifth, promoted by +Europe that collected 637 thousand signatures (for an abrogative referendum at least 500 thousand are needed), it concerns the requirement to obtain Italian citizenship. The promoters ask for 5 yes.

2 What is the question about layoffs?

The first referendum asks for the repeal of the discipline on layoffs in the growing protections contract introduced in 2015 by the Renzi government with the Jobs Act. The rules provide that in companies with more than 15 employees the workers hired from March 7, 2015 onwards are no longer entitled to reinstatement in their job after an illegitimate dismissal, even if the judge declares it as such, but only to an economic compensation.

3 What does the second referendum provide?

The repeal of the roof is requested from the allowance in layoffs in companies with less than 16 employees. Today, in the event of illegitimate dismissal, the indemnity cannot exceed 6 months. If the yes wins, the judge may have greater compensation.

4 The third question reviews the Jobs Act: what does it intend to change?

The repeal of the rules of the Jobs Act is requested which allow term employment contracts up to 12 months without « causal ». If the yes wins, the obligation for companies to indicate the reason for the use of workers with fixed -term contracts returns.

5 What does the number 4 question foresees on contracts and subcontracts?

The promoters ask that the rule be repealed which in the event of an accident at work limits the responsibility for the contractor or subcontracting company, excluding the contracting company. With the yes, the responsibility is also extended to the client entrepreneur.

6 What has changed with the Jobs Act?

The reform of the Jobs Act introduces, among other things, the permanent contract with growing protections with the abolition of article 18 and the obligation to reintegrate in the event of illegitimate dismissal.

7 What is asked with the yes to the referendum on citizenship?

The fifth referendum asks to halve the minimum uninterrupted time of legal residence in Italy from 10 to 5 years to obtain Italian citizenship for adult.

Italian citizens and Italians abroad can vote. The vote is possible also for off -sitestudents, workers or patients domiciled for at least 3 months away from their residence.

To be valid, the 5 referendums will have to reach the quorum:
And That is, it is necessary that it votes 50% plus one of the voters entitled.
