Sturm Graz buried Salzburg’s title dreams with 4: 2 victory-Diepresse.com

The Graz celebrates their third win of the season against the « bulls ». The Saumel-Elf temporarily expands the lead to six points. And the Salzburgers have no chance of two rounds before the end.

Sturm Graz has won a furious exchange of blows against Red Bull Salzburg and thus the successful title defense in the Bundesliga in front of the eyes. The leader prevailed on Friday before 15,934 spectators in Graz-Liebenau with 4: 2 (2: 1) and possibly presented in the master race. For the Salzburg coach Thomas Letsch, however, the title dreams are buried two games before the end of the season with a gap of seven points.

A double strike brought the eleven of Jürgen Saumel in the lead at the start of the 30th round. An own goal of Aleksa Terzic (18th), who steered a shot from William Böving in his own goal, and again Böving (20th) by volley for the first time caused a jubilee in Graz. The Salzburgers came up shortly before the break whistle through a header from Dorgeles Nene (45th). Gregory Wüthrich (48.), which was hoped for by the bulls, a dampers immediately after the change of sides with his first goal of the season. An own goal of Emanuel Aiwu (59.) brought excitement into the encounter again, but « Joker » Tochi Chukwuani (72nd) restored the two-goal lead and sealed the third storm season against the Salzburg.

For the Graz, which temporarily expanded their lead over Viennese Austria and the WAC, to six points, Rapid are still waiting in the season finish and the Wolfsberger in front of a home backdrop. For Salzburg, Blau-Weiß Linz and at home against Rapid are only a starting place in the Champions League qualification.

Böving returned and met

At Sturm, the blocked offensive duo Böving and Leon Grgic returned to the starting eleven compared to the 1-0 away win against Blau-Weiß. The Salzburgers traveled to Styria with a 2-0 against Vienna Austria, where the final return to the master race was supposed to succeed. On the defensive, Samson Baidoo moved back to the first team after his lock, but the 21-year-old was not called up by Letsch in central defense, but rather at the back instead of Leandro Morgalla.

Both teams started with straightforward and quick attacks in front of a sold -out backdrop. However, great danger did not result from the first attempts, shots by Tomi Horvat (5th) and Otar Kiteishvili (7th, 16th) and Adam Daghim (8th) on the other side did not result in a goal. This followed a little later in a double version: Only Terzic falsified a Böving shot unsustainable for goalkeeper Alexander Schlager, just two minutes later the left-back was the unlucky. Terzic blocked a Horvat shot unhappily, the ball flew to Böving in a high arc, who hit the crossbar from five meters.

Salzburg stayed tuned

With the comfortable guidance in the back, the Grazer made the rooms tight. The Salzburger took command, at shots by Oscar Gloukh (29th) and Nene (30th), Sturm goalie Kjell Scherpen was on hand. After a Scherpen-Patzer, Adam Daghim did not bring a header on the half-empty goal (43.), shortly afterwards the ball fidgeted on the net. Gloukh found the head of Nene with a flank, which used from a short distance.

The second half started for the Salzburg with a shock: a header from Dimitri Lavalée after a corner was only able to ward off Schlager briefly, Wüthrich was in the right place and, like last year, became a scorer in the season finale. With the recovering Karim Onisiwo, Letsch changed a new impulse into the bull offensive – with success. A massive flank of the veteran steered AIWU into his own goal, the drama was restored.

Sturm ice cold

Saumel brought fresh defensive forces to secure the tour. But it was better for the storm coach. Substitute Emir Karic played the newly coming Chukwuani ideal, the midfield clearer turned over the unhappy -looking hit and made the decision. The Salzburgers had to put a setback away again, a new answer was not achieved with the chances of Petar Ratkov (75th) and Onisiwo (81st, 88.).
