Students led processions in the largest cities in Serbia in support of Dean

Students and citizens went out to a protest procession in Belgrade tonight in support of Natalia Jovanovic, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy in Nis, attacked by a knife yesterday on the eve of the traditional Sunday protest in the largest city in southern and Eastern Serbia.

Jovanovic is one of the first teachers to support the student blockades of over 60 faculties because of the tragedy in Novi Sad last year, where, after an incident at the recently renovated railway station, 16 people lost their lives.

Yesterday, the dean of the Faculty of Philosophy in Nisha Natalia Jovanovic was injured in the hand, and citizens hid her in a nearby betting hall to avoid any new attacks against her while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

Jovanovic’s striker is a sixty -nine -year -old woman who threatened to flood her with sulfuric acid, but was arrested by police before performing them.

The protesters in Belgrade tonight wore a banner, which reads: « Solidarity – Freedom – Law ».

The procession started from the Student Square and passed through the central streets of the Serbian capital, and when it reached the Constitutional Court building, protesters kept silent for 16 minutes and with the lights of their phones paid tribute to the 16 people killed in Novi Sad.

The crowd also went through the edits of Novosti, Courier and Politics – three newspapers, which, according to protesters, are loyal to the policy of Serbian President Alexander Vucic, use the language of hatred and turn the leaders of social discontent into targets of disrupting campaigns.

Serbia asked for help from Russia in the investigation whether the « sound gun » of the protest in Belgrade was used

The protesters called their procession « Line of Shame », and the first ranks wore a banner, which says, « Sleep! »

« This time I blame only one person, this person pulled out a knife to me, and this is the president of this country! », Said the dean of the Faculty of Philosophy in Nish Natalia Jovanovic after the attack yesterday.

Two days before this incident, the Minister of Public Investment, Darko Glisic, called the rector of Belgrade University Prof. Vladan Jokic « the face of evil », accused him of corruption and asked to be arrested for his support for students’ protests.

In addition to Belgrade today, there were processions in support of the dean of the Faculty of Philosophy in Nisha Natalia Jovanovic and in the other three university cities in Serbia – Novi Sad, Kragujevac and Nis.
