Students in demonstration for better conditions and against bribes
Students from all over the country will speak this Monday in Lisbon to insist on the bribes in higher education and in the defense of better conditions, more support and residences. In addition they will mark National Student Day.
The concentration in Lisbon is scheduled for 2:30 pm at Rossio, where students go to the Assembly of the Republic. In the protest will participate representatives of student associations from more than a dozen higher education institutions across the country, from Porto, Lisbon and Coimbra, Trás-os-Montes, Minho and Algarve.
Under the motto “We have not retreated, free already!”, Which gives title to the appeal launched by eight student associations, students defend the end of the fees, “more and better public residences, scholarships for all who need them and truly democratic management” of institutions.
According to the Lusa agency, in the text, the associations criticize the possible thawing of the value of the fees, admitted by the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, and consider that the apparent path of government, now in management, for higher education goes against the interests of students.
« It is not about defending the path that students claim, seeking free and ending chronic sub-finance. On the contrary, one seeks to increase the frequency costs in higher education and to convince us that there is no alternative to this path, » they write.
On the other hand, they underline the increase in the cost of meals, the lack of beds in public residences and psychologists in universities and polytechnics, the insufficiency of the scholarships and the poor student representation in the management bodies.
In addition to the college students, also the students of secondary education mark National Student Day and, in Porto, a concentration in front of the Soares dos Reis artistic school for the valorization of artistic education is planned.
