Students have already adopted the UI – the system not yet

In the podcast On the edge This time we touched on the role of artificial intelligence in education. Guest was Andrej Skrabaeconomist, mathematician and founder ASTRA PORTALwhich many high school students know as one of the best mentors in preparation for the graduation. This week he was also selected for the best startup in 2025. Andrej Skraba will also be a guest of the upcoming conference Mobile Technology Delowhere with guests will perform at a round table Intelligence without emotions: Will the future be more efficient or cooler?

According to him, we have already deeply stepped into a new period of education, which is strongly characterized by artificial intelligence – which will require thorough adjustment from all stakeholders.

Artificial intelligence first spread spontaneously in education – among students. After the launch of Chatgptja at the end of 2022, this was one of the fastest growing web products in history. The students quickly started using it to write tasks, as language models are extremely effective.

Essay as an outdated proof of knowledge?

« In reality, it is almost impossible to determine today whether a text was written by a student or artificial intelligence, » Skrab warns, adding: « Essay is no longer a reliable indicator of knowledge today. »

This fact raises the question of how the school system should respond to this turnaround. According to him, university exams and finishing work will have to change a lot.

“The more the task is, the greater the likelihood that it will be written by UI. The more concrete, research, attached to empirical data – the more the author’s own mind will be present in it, « explains Skraba.

Is artificial intelligence a new calculator? Skraba compares the current technological turnaround to the introduction of calculators in the 1960s, when professors also announced the end of thinking and calculations. But the difference is crucial: “The calculator counted the numbers. Artificial intelligence, however, writes, explains, concludes, even advises. This is not just a tool – he is the first digital interlocutor to pass the Turing test. «

According to him, every individual will soon have his own UI-based man. The only question is whether he will be able to use it properly – and whether we will teach it how to do it responsibly.

The school of the future: Each student with their UI tutor?

According to the interlocutor, the future can also be in an inverted learning process-the basic concepts are won by students at home, with the help of a personal UI-tutor, and they come to school for exercises, discussions and teachers’ assistance.

“Let us imagine a system where each student has their own private teacher – 24 hours a day. This is UI, and it already exists, « says Skraba.

However, he points out: “I don’t think there is a medium path. Whether we fully integrate artificial intelligence in education – or do we decide to be completely banned. But the ban will be very difficult to realize. «

In the podcast, he also emphasizes that we have to ask ourselves what skills young people will need in the future. If we consciously learn to use artificial intelligence at school, we will deprive them of key tools that will surely be used as future workers and professionals.

« We can no longer say, ‘We are not learning this because it is not allowed.’ UI is here and we use it. It is our duty to teach them how to use it wisely. «
