The Flemish government decided on Friday that students and students who work up to 650 hours a year under the affordable student statute will retain their growth package or child money. This is reported by Minister of Welfare Caroline Gennez (Vooruit).
Until recently, students were allowed to work up to 475 hours a year under an affordable status. That labor limit was also registered in the growth package. If you worked as a student more than 475 hours a year, you could be suspended growth package. Recently the federal government decided to raise the labor limit for students to 650 hours. So there threatened a skewer. That is why the Flemish government is the same in the growth package, from 475 hours to 650 hours.
« That is only logical, » says Minister Gennez. « A lot of students will use those extra hours. Many also pay their room or studies with it, and then a student job is just really needed. It is the world upside down if they would lose their children’s money. Working must also pay for young people, » says the Vooruit Minister.
Just like the federal measure, this Flemish Decree will also apply retroactive from 1 January 2025. Due to the retroactive effect, no rights will be lost.
