Stuck in the Mahmurluk Museum in Zagreb
Bar storage, stolen road signs, empty bottles and numerous personal stories. This is the way the visitors of the Museum of Hangovers in Zagreb, Croatia, pass through.
They enter various halls that recreate a process known to many – drinking.
What is the museum concept
Bicycle pedal – this is the special symbol of the museum, placed in a wall frame. The founder is inspired by the story of a friend who, after a drunken evening, finds the pedal in his pants pocket, but has no memory of how he ended up there. This is how the idea of creating a museum was born in which to present various objects from alcohol adventures and stories to people with atypical experiences. This creates the first and only hangover museum in the world, which has welcomed visitors for six years.
Cathedrals, cross, river – how much can the head of a chancellor
The museum works every day from 10am to 10pm. The price of the regular ticket is 9 euros and for students and pensioners – 8 euros. Children up to the age of 6 can enter free of charge, and from 7 to 17 years old-for 7 euros. The building is located about a 15 -minute walk from King Tomislav’s central square in Zagreb. |
The concept steps on the different phases of one night out of the evening. It starts with drinking at the bar with friends, continues with the study of streets and parks. In case he is over -drinking, one can forget some moments from the evening and wake up with a hangover in his room in the morning. Often with regret the amount of alcohol he drank.
Anyone can send a story to the museum for their fun experience. There are photos and stories from around the world on its walls, but most often, Croatia remains. Some people talk about the injuries they have received after their alcoholic adventures, others – about objects that have kept for many years. Such is the story of the sign of the Croatian Syro Bar, which three young people abolish and keep in 7 years. It is now part of the museum’s exhibition.
The pressure in a bottle of champagne is about 3 times greater than that in a car tire, according to the authors of the exposure. According to them, when removed, the champagne plug can reach a speed of 40 km/h. Therefore, it is more likely that one will lose their lives in a champagne incident than a poison spider bites. Almost one -third of champagne deaths are during weddings, according to the information at the museum. |
All halls have an interactive element such as the Pong beer game, and visitors can also try to pass from one end to the other in the form of a wooden road that spring. The catch is that they have to do it with special glasses that create a sense of dizziness that is associated with the effects of alcohol.
The tour ends with the lessons … and something else
The purpose of the hangover museum is not only to tell funny stories, but also to educate its visitors. Interesting facts about alcohol can be seen everywhere. On the walls of a dark tunnel through the light of a lantern filed by the reception, inscriptions are found that tell the story of the creation of different types of alcohol.
Worldwide, the minimum legal age for alcohol access varies from 15 to 25. Seven countries do not have an age limit determined by the government, while 11 countries completely prohibit alcohol consumption, according to data from the creators of the museum. |
While the first halls of the museum are mainly related to the fun side of drinking, the last one, which represents a hangover with a hangover, is different. The main change is music, and here it is slower and even sad. On the walls of the hall you can read information about the disease cirrhosis of the liver, whose main cause is alcohol abuse.
If the visitor wishes, one of the screens in the last hall may introduce the type and amount of alcohol he consumes weekly. According to these data, the suspected state of his liver is shown.
An interesting element of the exhibition is the car simulator where anyone can try to « drive » with the help of real steering wheel and pedals and has the option to put the same glasses from earlier with which he sees the blurred. This would show some people what it feels like to drive while you are drunk – the lack of orientation and a sense of space that should be avoided at all costs.
Although the creators of the museum create a fun place for many people, they do not miss the message that it should be drunk responsibly, and at the end of the tour the visitors receive a handwriting from a shot of Croatian plum brandy.
