Strong increase in visa applications in Luxembourg
While more and more Luxembourgers live outside the national borders, the interest of third -country nationals in the Grand Duchy is growing. According to the 2024 activity report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, the number of visa applications increases steadily.
As the ministry emphasizes, a record for visa applications was even recorded last year. A total of 30,677 applications were registered in 2024. According to the Ministry, this underlines « the growing attractiveness of Luxembourg as a goal for work, study and life ».
Great interest from India and Turkey
The majority of these visa applications were in detail on family reasons (9:009 Applications), followed by TouristenVisa (8.038), business visa (5,600) and long -term stays (4,624). « An increase in applications for tourist reasons was found, a phenomenon that was not so pronounced in previous years, » notes the Ministry.
Most of these numerous visa applications came from the consulate in Neu-Delhi (4,058 applications), followed by Ankara (3,299). An increase in applications for Luxembourg was also recorded from China, with 1,951 applications at the embassy in Beijing. According to the ministry, this increase is « due to the direct flight China – Luxemburg and the cooperation with an external service provider in China ». As a reminder: China Southern Airlines has been running a direct connection between Zhengzhou and Luxembourg since the end of December 2023.
More and more applications in London
In 2024, Indian citizens with 5,495 visitors provided the largest group of third -country nationals who visited the Grand Duchy. Turkish (3,373 people) and Chinese citizens (3,216 people) follow. At the same time, the London consulate recorded – Due to the Brexit – also a significant increase in applications. Of 544 applications in 2022 over 908 in 2023, a total of 1,148 applications were processed in 2024.

This « significant increase in applications » inevitably led to an additional burden on the visa service, which had to adjust his way of working to check the applications « stricter » – especially when checking the evidence documents in order to recognize possible counterfeits.
Almost 7,500 new Luxemburger
