Strong earthquake 6.1 Richter in Crete
A strong earthquake of 6.1 on the Richter scale occurred at 6:19 in the morning in Crete which was felt at Athens.
The focus was 56km BBA of Naples Lasithi.
According to the Geodynamic Institute, the focal depth was at 60km.
A few minutes later, two aftershocks followed 3.1 and 2.7 Richter.
The intensity and duration of the earthquake was long in Chania and Rethymnon.
The 6.1 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale, according to the revised solution by the Geodynamic Institute 56km northeast of Neapoli Lasithi, led many residents to find themselves outside their homes in the two prefectures of western Crete.
The first Lekka estimate
OASP President Efthymios Lekkas said of the strong earthquake in Crete that it is positive that it had a great focal depth.
Speaking to Mega, Mr. Lekkas stressed that the earthquake was very focal depth. It was felt in a wide area of Greece and as he said there is probably no fear of tsunami.
He spoke of a different geotectonic context from Santorini and Arkalochori.
« The area has given a big earthquake again. It is not about the bow south of Crete. We need to look at the evolution of the phenomenon, ”he said.
