Strike in hotel, tourism and distribution with residual impact

The strike called this Thursday in the distribution, hotel and tourism sectors is having a “residual” impact. The main objective is the participation of workers in the celebrations of May 1st.

The stoppage, convened by the Federation of Agriculture Unions, Food, Beverages, Hospitality and Tourism of Portugal (FESAHT) and the Service Sector Union (Sitesis), “was scheduled to allow workers who want to participate in the commemorations of May 1,” said Afonso Figueiredo da FeShat.

Still, he said, quoted by Lusa agency, « will have an impact on some units and companies in particular, especially in the afternoon when most celebrations take place. »

There can be more affected “some hospitals at lunchtime, the distribution service in some hospitals, disturbances in the service of alpha and intercities bars”, and considering that today is a holiday the impacts can also feel in hotel and restoration, “but it will be a very residual thing,” he said.

In a statement, the sites announced for May 1st, a worker day, a strike “to work for the workers of the trade, offices and services sectors, namely in the companies affiliated with APED – Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies, starting at 00h00 hours and term at 24h00 hours”.

At the origin of the protest is the defense of “worthy work” and the struggle “against precariousness, the increase of wages, the defense of workers’ rights and the respect and requirement of full compliance with collective bargaining”.

The objective is to allow the presence in the demonstrations promoted by CGTP-in to mark the Labor Day and claim a general increase in salaries and pensions, the setting of maximum prices in essential goods, the taxation of companies ‘profits, the defense of workers’ rights, the right to housing and against increasing cost of living and exploitation.

Under FESAHT’s pre-guidance, “15%wage increases, at least 150 euros per worker”, the extraordinary increase in the national minimum wage to 1,000 euros, “with immediate effects”, work at weekend with a 50%work and the 25%increase with 25%shifts are required.

Still claimed is the assignment of two consecutive weekly resting days for all workers, the extraordinary increase of all pensions and reforms “that reposes purchasing power and ensuring their appreciation”, increasing social support benefits, the revocation of “grassless norms of labor legislation” and “the application of a tax on the colossal profits of large companies”.
